One of my dads uncles was army in the war. I cant recall everything he told me about him, but the gist of it was he was hauling ass through a forest on a horse, and got his horse blown out from underneath him. Spent the next couple of days, severely wounded, laying in the dirt as battle waged all about him.
He came back from the war, but not really.
My dads parents were also in uniform. My grandfather, whom I never knew, was diagnosed with a heart condition, and didnt go to Europe. His future wife, whom I also never knew, on the other hand, was an Army Nurse. And served near the front lines in what would be considered as a forerunner to a M.A.S.H. Unit in later times.
My dads folks both died in 44/45. I have their dog tags. It wild thing to have Army dog tags for a grandmother that was born in the 19th century.
It would be marvelous if they applied this same technology to colorize and digitally restore and enhance video taken throughout WW2.
I think Mr, Jackson has a calling, for brining the past alive, to inform and Educate the youngsters of today, about what hardship is really like.
Just based upon the trailer alone, kudos to you Peter!
Many have and are, doing the same with WWII footage, but what Jackson did to smooth out the jerkey hand cranked camera film of a hundered years ago is astounding.
Here in SoCal only two days
are showing the movie,,,
I may Try December 27,
What are the dates in
You’re area code?
I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room but adnt none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-alls,
But when it comes to fightin, Lord! Theyll shove me in the stalls!
For its Tommy this, an Tommy that, an Tommy, wait outside;
But its Special train for Atkins when the troopers on the tide
The troopships on the tide, my boys, the troopships on the tide,
O its Special train for Atkins when the troopers on the tide
from "Tommy"--Rudyard Kipling
Well according to AMC, in 46205, it lists more than 17/27. So I dont know. Im going to try and go tomorrow. If not the 27th.
Kipling sure did know how to turn a word.
I encourage people to seek out the 3D showings, I’m going to see one tomorrow evening. I expect that 3D will add greatly to the impact of this restoration.
Incidentally there were hundreds of superb 3D photographs shot during the Great War, these are still available in antique stereocards and glass slides.
I'll watch the regular version tomorrow night. I'll catch the 3D version on the 27th.
I’ll be watching that.
Were going to see it tomorrow.
They are heroes, each of them...and I'm sure you're very proud of their service to our country.

Americans’ eyes were opened after the Vietnam War, when many of its engineers admitted they’d made several mistakes. This country will never again institute the draft, and if they attempt to do so everyone under 50 should research WWI. As you say, they died for nothing; the war was built on a pack of lies, and when the dust settled the world was not “safe for democracy” - in fact, the “sun never set” on the British Empire for decades afterwards.
It truly was the suicide of Europe, and the end of Christianity as a dominant theme there.
Best Christmas wishes for a quick and complete recovery, Leni
