What about the bus? If youre close enough, you can walk. If not, the bus will bring you in. But I get it. Some kids are too cool for buses, mom-rides, and school.
You are OK with arresting a kid for missing more than 4 days of school in a 4 week period? Really?
A voice of reason.
Thank you.
That said the whole thing is a farce. She should have said "FU he's being home schooled." Even if she taught him nothing it's better than the indoctrination he's getting now.
The experience is meant to ‘traumatize’. You’re supposed to ‘not like’ it, then act to avoid the event.
This is usually the last resort, when the parent has not replied to notices. Maybe Jr. was hiding the notices. It would be the first time that old method was used by a truant.
I’m surprised they still even have Truant Officers.
Such officers used to be as common as Dogcatchers.
When is the last time you saw a Dogcatcher rounding up strays? I believe they can still be called for Pit Bull attacks.
He can ride a smaller motorcycle in OK at 14.
When Mr. b was 14, he had a license and a car in TX. It all depends on the state.
Good discussion. The ignorant parent needs to realize the consequences of her actions and future she is setting her kid up for. I do wonder why mom and dad were not the ones arrested or also arrested. The kid is their responsibility.
With schools and cops not wanting to touch minority kids, only white kids get d-hall, failing grades and hauled off in handcuffs for missing school.
When the police are used for this kind of thing, one tends to lose respect for the “law,” which is nothing more than an abuse of power.
In my days we had to run ten miles, in the dark and rain--it rained or snowed every day, and wind blew straight up or down the hill, always in your face--to meet the truant officer at the abandoned buggy-whip factory where he would handcuff us to the rusty tie-down rings the blacksmith fastened back to of the wagon box.
We had to run--another 14 miles--to keep from falling down which when it happened they cuffed you to the front of the wagon, under the buckboard, and you were dragged the remaining miles in the dust and the horse urine and worse, but meant you could actually catch another 40 winks if you could just learn to relax.
If you slept through the school stop the officer would take you straight to the asbestos mine where you were too late to go down with the regular crew so they lowered you alone the two hundred feet with the line wrapped around your waist and then back between your legs--ouch!--and hooked to your back beltloop, which you'd better hope you had one of.
Oh things were simpler then! Oh the happy times we had!
“Time to repeal mandatory education and compulsory attendance laws.”
They were put in place to give financial support to the unions. These anti-Freedom laws need repealed.
Compulsory attendance to anything is slavery.
We don’t have enough information here for an opinion. I know school districts that are too strict. And I know kids that never get out of bed no matter what the parents say. By reading the article I don’t know if this is a real problem with the child or parent. Or a school district run a muck. We just don’t know. But they did get us to read the article. Click bate.
Mandatory indoctrination at our public schools is a joke, allow the kid to work. Who here didn’t work at 14?
I actually made my child stay home because he was fatigued. He fought me tooth and nail....but slept all day. The next day, he thanked me.
If the kid doesn’t show up...they lose bucks.
No one should be arrested. Record his attendance and move on.
