Emphasis on ‘large donors’. Corporations etc. are not ever likely to take a stand that might make them a target. What the BSA needed to do was elicit support from parents. There are just under 3 million youth members of the BSA, and if their families gave just $10 to a legal defense fund there would be ~$30 million to fight with. If you add to that solicitation of funds from others, it could be well over $50,000,000 to fight with.
