The Boy scouts of America, the 108-year-old organization synonymous with traditional values in the US, is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy, according to the Wall Street Journal.The report comes amid news of sinking membership and various controversies surrounding the traditional organization, including its decision to change its program name from Boy Scouts to 'gender natural' Scouts BSA allowing girls to enter the program.

Like years ago the Campfire Girls had to include boys.
The process of destruction was
1) Get the organization hooked on corporate funding.
2) Force them to become PC in order to continue to be funded.
3) Their core left, causing an implosion.
Liberals touched a formerly top notch organization.
And, true to form, they took a bodacious Obama on it.
It now smells to high heaven, is covered with flies, and is properly being carried to the dust bin.
I wonder if it is possible for some conservatives to buy the Boy Scouts, change the rules and bring it back to what it used to be. Maybe not. Perhaps the brand is gone forever.
some of my most happy memories were Scout meetings in Driftwood, Texas in the late fifties.

I have to say, at the Pack/Troop/Ship level none of this stuff ever mattered. Ever. It’s always been about opening the world up to kids.

The Boy Scouts is a bank for pedophiles. I was a scout in the 70’s, and back then the controls on it were extremely lax. It’s getting taken down today because people who were kids then are suing now.

There may be sex going on between single adult leaders (and married ones at that), but sex and scouting aren’t happening. Scout Oath, Scout Law, and trying to give kids an opportunity to take some limited risks and fail gracefully.
It’s a good organization, better for its struggles and one of the safest in the world right now for kids as a result.
But hey, you can always go to the better national org for kids. You know, the perfect one, where nobody gets hurt, has all the money they need, great program, and motivated adults that have only the kids interests at heart.

Actually only about half of Trail Life USA troops had prior BSA experience. The rest started off from scratch.
In my case, we left BSA in 2013 with fifteen boys. Our troop now has 75. Very few had prior experience. Due to age, of the 75 we have now, only 3 or 4 were Boy Scouts.

Back to the dawn of civilization, one finds countless examples where menfolk organized groups to train young males. Males were taught how to hunt, how to fight, how to lead, how to protect the tribe, respect for elders and tradition. In a word, how to persist civilization itself. It is part of the reason we’ve succeeded as a species. Now in the name of equality, a modern version of this tribal learning, this civilizing force, has been destroyed.
