(Long screed warning to follow)
It was a wacky day for me yesterday.
MS Pushed a new version of Windows 10 - 1809 - 64bit -to me and I let it install- Weds.
After i checked it out, I ran the Windows Disk Cleanup to include System Files on Thursday.
Not paying attention, it turns out the “download” folder is now included in this ( i don't know if it was before or not - I don't believe it was ) and it is check-marked by default.
It cleaned up a bunch of crappola and freed up a ton of gigs, more than usual, which I thought was strange.
It adiosed everything in my “Download” folder, which is identified as a Windows “System Folder”.
I have done this as part of my normal maintenance and have never had this happen before.
After I did the cleanup, I did a HD defrag.
Rebooted.
Then went to my download folder and = empty.
Panic.
That is were I kept all my documentation for everything I I've ever researched, software I bought and used,
all the photos and stuff from 911, all the documents related to any FOIA request I've filed. All the flippin court records\affidavits\warrants\judgments for anything remotely related to all the DJT & Clinton investigations.
Personal stuff - billing records\receipts\tax data.
Recovery did not recovery much from that folder( i have multiple recovery\undelete programs) most of what was recovered was unusable.
I have since created a download folder that is not a system folder, on another hard drive and will store stuff on that.
Which I should have done and should have backed up stuff in the first place. (No guts no glory finally bytes me in the buttocks)
BE CAREFUL WHEN DOING A WINDOWS DISK CLEANUP.
Back stuff up.
Store it in some place other than a “system folder - specially the Download folder”.
Just shoot me.
I take a break from my self caused mayhem and have a nice dinner with my better angel.
I took care of some business, went to sleep and didn't get back to "Q" thread until this a.m.(I bkmrkd at post 1651 made one response just before I went to bed) And I missed our herpes Troll explosion...plus the noobs.
I am proud of all ya all on how you handle it.
The part I don't get ? Nobody woke me !!!
Deepest sympathies on your digital loss. A trauma to be sure. Many thanks for the warning. Sorry your lesson was at such a personal cost.
But what a great idea about the wakeup alarm. A version of whatever the talking interface is that would act like the bat call to recognize significant events and play something like Reville to awaken you to Q drops or some such. Clearly an essential tool for Queepers.
