The mass media has to keep the audience entertained and the Royal family provides all the ingredients; name recognition, money, scandal, glamor, family feuds, etc.,
The Royals don’t respond to criticism - they just keep on keepin’ on. Not subject to elections and the potential side effects, they provide a sense of continuity i.e. to the Brits during war time and other crises.
The Brits love their Royals - but not sure about Meghan Markle - she is an American commoner - married & divorced (once not twice).
