The holidays are upon us and for many that means family time in the kitchen preparing delicious baked goods and maybe even licking the spoon before the cookies go into the oven. So the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) put out a warning this week to, Say No To Raw Dough!
Dr. Todd Ellerin -- who admits he doesnt bake -- said its the raw flour and uncooked eggs that can make us sick.
Ellerin warned that complications of this type of E. coli can include bloody diarrhea, need for prolonged hospitalization, and kidney failure, breakdown of red blood cells that carry oxygen.
CDC says Salmonella symptoms typically include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. In most cases, illness lasts 4 to 7 days and people recover without antibiotics. Illness from Salmonella bacteria can be serious and is more dangerous for older adults, infants, and people with weakened immune systems.
Dr. Ellerin wants people to have a nice holiday season and doesnt want to ruin Kims fun in the kitchen, but has a wish for one and all, We are used to hearing Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas, but in the kitchen as we are preparing to make cookies, it should be Ho Ho Ho, please avoid the raw dough!

I had never till recently heard of flour being a problem. Maybe it became a problem due to sloppy kitchen habits, getting stuff in the flour bag or canister that shouldn’t be there. I never understood hooking all the spoons and measures together on a ring, as neat as it looks. I keep mine separate.
‘mmmm bloody diarrhea sure brings in the Christmas Spirit there...
Your Tax Dollars At Work.
Providing “employment” to the unemployable. As usual.
I am going to eat raw cookie dough and hamburgers and fries, all the time, forever...
When I was a kid I split my chin open at Christmas time. Mom called the doc and she was baking cookies but her boys were eating the dough as fast as she could make it.
I can’t believe I’ve lived this long.
I’ve eaten raw cookie dough for over 60 years.
Drink from the water hose
Eat sandwiches in my unrefrigerated lunch in the summer
Go barefoot much of the summer
Take walks in the rain
etc.
I’m starting to feel like my Dad when he said he had seen enough change for one lifetime.
The sky's falling, the sky's falling! For the past five thousand years...
If I ever get my damned book published, it will explain how & why people are more susceptible than ever to e-coli and other organisms. It will also explain why most people won’t do anything about it or, for that matter, care about consequences they don’t suffer at the time.
It’s not rocket science, and it serves one purpose that they’re taking advantage of fully.
Oh, but gluten-free, paleo, vegan, low cholesterol & exercise are panacea to health. /s
The latest life expectancy stats say otherwise...
#MeToo....well cookie dough, anyways.
“The latest life expectancy stats say otherwise...”
Too many French fries and cokes.
I do wish pasteurized eggs were available, though. I read a lot of recipes, and apparently in the U.K., the eggs can be kept on the counter, because they’re pasteurized. But I hear people who have chickens often keep theirs out, too. Every time I buy farm eggs, they have poop all over tgem. But then I read, don’t wash them, or you’ll wash off the natural protective coating. In other wirds, who knows?
Geesh, we’ve been eating this all of my life!!!
Parent explaining to children as to why to avoid eating raw flour:
“Do you think the [*]s who make that uncooked flour wash their hands after going to the bathroom?”
* Name of any ethnic group.
That is hilarious.
I did it as a kid and I was going to let some kids I was babysitting for, lick the beaters years later. They were clueless. LOL
Screw the CDC. Bunch of unemployable idiots
Unabated cell phone use in cookie dough factories and other food processing centers is a problem.
The germs are not what they use to be or where they use to be.
I always eat raw cookie dough...
55 years and nothing but delicious memories...
“... don’t eat the yellow snoe”.
