(CNN)Tyler Perry is spreading holiday cheer in his city of Atlanta.

Perry shared a video on Twitter announcing that he paid off all the layaways at two Walmart stores on Thursday.

A Walmart spokeswoman confirmed to CNN the actor and filmmaker paid off $432,635 worth of layaway items at two stores in the Atlanta metro area.

"I know it's a hard time, a lot of people are struggling and I'm just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this," Perry said in the video, adding that his intention had originally been for his contribution to remain anonymous. "God Bless, go get your stuff, Merry Christmas," Perry said.

Very nice. Hopefully this thread will avoid the ridicule of people who use lay-away that a previous one had.

God Bless Tyler Perry.

Perry’s found a way to help people who are playing by the rules and struggling to be loving parents at Christmas. What a beautiful gesture...

“I know it’s a hard time, a lot of people are struggling.....”

Nice thing to do, but lost me with the above statement.

We have the “Best economy in history” last I heard.

That’s nice of him, but I’m sorry for all the people who are conservative in their behavior, and don’t buy the biggest things they can, but rather put the money in the bank. They get nothing, and the spenders get a prize.

It’s his money, and he’s entitled to do whatever he wants with it, and in the grand scheme of things, this is a pretty nice thing to do with it.

Why does he need to announce it? Looks like PR disguised as charity.

I haven’t used layaway for a while, but it’s better than credit, IMO.

I imagine that's a lot of hubbies getting berated by their wives right about now, "I told ya' to put that 4K on layaway!!!"

Yeah, didn’t get that either. However, it’s a blessed thing to do. I applaud him for rendering help to those who may be struggling, for whatever reason.

There will always be people who ‘struggle’ in a good economy.

In the late ‘60s, I bought my first “serious” wool coat - on layaway at JC Penney. When you’re a kid and never knew that such a thing as “credit” even existed, it was great.

Nice.

I would not have guessed that the layaways at two Walmart stores would total $432,635

“People are having a hard time-people are struggling”....

This is the best economy in 40 years with the lowest unemployment overall & be far the lowest unemployment for blacks.

Apparently there is WORK for those who wish to do it.

Every time I’ve seen a store with layaway here it seems it’s the blacks and Mexicans that use it.
