I must admit, I still do not understand it all, because there is no direct correlation to American political divides.
In general, it seems the people are protesting against the horror show socialism and globalism are making of their country ... but then they seem to be asking for more socialism.
HERE IS MY TAKE ON IT: France has no intention of throwing off the socialist parasite or the not-so-gradual shift to EU, thought-controlled tyranny. Even the so-called right wing politician, Marine Le Pen, is a socialist.
France, whose revolutionary Jacobinism was the immediate ancestor of violent Marxism, i.e., communism, has become a pathetic loser nation and there appears to be no turning back.
The best we could hope for is that Le Pen achieves power and slows down the transformation of France into the first MAJOR Islamic nuclear power (They have a large, probably operational, nuclear arsenal).
Thanks for your thoughtful reply to the Der Spiegel article. Only one thing is certain, IMO - Macron overplayed his hand and change is on the horizon.
He would have been wise to listen to Trump.
