In a record for diversity at the annual Golden Globes Awards, four of the 10 nominees in the two Best Picture categories this year have non-white directors.
Spike Lees BlacKkKlansman, Ryan Cooglers Black Panther, Barry Jenkins If Beale Street Could Talk all were recognized in the Best Picture-Drama category, while John M. Chus Crazy Rich Asians made the cut in the Best Picture Comedy or Drama competition.
Of these, only Lee received a nomination for Best Director, where he was joined by the Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón for Roma which as a foreign-language film was not eligible in the Globes Best Picture Drama category.
The other directing nominees are Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born, Peter Farrelly for Green Book and Adam McKay for Vice.
Last year, Guillermo del Toros The Shape of Water and Jordan Peeles Get Out were both recognized in the top drama and comedy categories, respectively. Del Toro wound up winning the directing prize, though Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Lady Bird took the picture prizes.

Did “ballot harvesting” play a role?

They can stop complaining about "lack of diversity" now.
Are any of the shows any good? Hate to say it but getting some trophy because of your skin tone is not only lame but * cue the kid* TAH’T RACIST!”
Not the best nor the most popular but diverse which is an empty award when you think about it which liberals do not.
“I won this award because everyone better was blocked from winning”
I haven’t seen any of these films, yet my life goes on.
This is like on The Price Is Right, where at least one of the final contestants is always “diverse.” Magic!
I foresee a day when one’s life won’t go if you don’t participate in praising these mostly talentless asshats.
And just how good-enough-to-watch are these diverse efforts?
I pretty much don’t watch any American-produced stuff anymore. The well here has been poisoned.
well if there’s no white people, it must be good.....
My one movie this year was Crazy Rich Asians, which was really kind of fun. Shot in large part in Singapore, a city I visited and loved a few decades ago, I went to see how it had changed. Silly fun movie, not quite cloying, though you might find it so.
Before that, I saw Dinesh D’Souza’s movie “Hillary’s America—A History of the. Democratic Party.” It gave very graphic examples of Saul Alinsky’s life and methods. Every Freeper should see it.
Yes, I did watch Crazy Rich Asians, it reminded me of a lot of the KDramas I like to watch.
There you have it. Talent and skills dont win. Just minoritys numbers.
The ability to make entertainment is not related to color. Its tied directly to being able to connect with the audience.
That said, I was surprised at how I didnt know many of the films. My wife and I generally go to 15-20 movies a year. I love movies. I guess I need to change theaters.
Where’s Jackie Chan in this mix? I demand they honor Jackie Chan....
Only 4 of 10? That’s RACIST!!
all of these countries making movies and only American films get the nod?
Where is the diversity?
American movies are made abroad now because it is cheaper so it isn’t because they aren’t “capable” of making good movies.
>>Ryan Cooglers Black Panther,
Was there much diversity in Wakanda?
