I think Trump is trying to turn McConnell. When he invited McConnell to one of his stage events McConnell got more cheers and adulation probably than he has ever had before.
I don't understand why no one is making a bigger deal of that, including Trump.
Since the term of recess appointees is limited to the end of the following congress, that process is not advisable for filling judicial positions. In essence, you would be wasting a good nominee as he would be out of office before he could have an impact. In theory, he could be reappointed for the permanent position, but it would be very difficult to get him approved. A good young attorney aspiring to be a judge would likely turn down a recess appointment.
