Oh geez. They got it wrong because for years they told the Big12 they had to have a championship game to be considered. They let Notre Dame in. Hell Notre Dame should have at LEAST dropped to #4.
Georgia lost they are out. They didn’t win their conference. It wouldn’t be fair to Alabama to put them in there and make them play again either. Georgia should have moved to #7 behind all the teams that did win their conference title game. They screwed that up too.
This is pretty much like it was before the tournament...people arguing. They need to get go to 8 teams. 5 big conferences get automatic bids. The other 3 will be by bogus selection (like it is this year). But no more than 2 teams from a single conference allowed.
Serieiesly, WHO cares?
When sports champion slots involve choices of a committee...it isn’t a championship. I’m not sure what you would call it exactly, but it’s not a championship.
Mr. Forde cites Sagarin strength of schedule as a metric in support of UGa. Sagarin rates Notre Dame #7 overall with the 42th strength of schedule behind both OU and THE Ohio State University.
woulda coulda shoulda
Oklahoma essentially undid their previous loss of the season by beating Texas in a rematch. They get the nod.
I hope UGA doesn’t fall into depression and lose in the Sugar Bowl as SEC teams tend to do when they lose the SEC championship game.
I hope Bama gets rid of their jitters and plays to win against OU.
As many of the wags said this morning, the 4 teams in the playoff beat every team on their schedule. In Oklahoma’s case, their loss was to Texas, who they beat in the Big 12 Conference Championship.
As opposed to Georgia, who lost to LSU and didn’t win their Conference. Or Ohio State, who lost badly to Purdue, even though they destroyed Michigan and won handily in their Conference Championship.
Ya gotta win to get in. And neither Georgia nor Ohio State won the games they had to win.
I am just the messenger. UGa had their shot and blew it. Let OU have their shot at ‘Bama.
Agree. I for one am not interested in watching a third match between Alabama and Georgia. Having said that, I do believe that Georgia is probably the third best team in the country and Oklahoma is probably fourth. However, there would be hell to pay by Norte Dame fans if their undefeated team had not been given a seat at the table. The four teams selected are ok with me. But, I predict that Clemson is going to take ND to school...
That's what they got wrong.
A one-loss ream over a two-loss team. If Georgia has any complaints, they should reflect on the LSU game. Ohio State has just as good a case to make as Oklahoma. Yes a blow-out loss to an unranked Purdue is ... inexplicable. But one loss is one loss.
How in the world do they leave out the NDSU Bison every year :) appears they are headed for FCS natty championship for the past 7 out of 8 years.....
we want bama, we want bama LOL
I think Georgia is easily one of the four best teams in the country right now. I also don’t think they belong in the playoffs. Their loss to LSU continued a pattern that they’ve followed for almost 40 years since their last national title ... they are a solid program that somehow manages to lose at least one game every year to a team they should beat.
If the bama qb hadn’t been gimpy all game it wouldn’t have been close. I don’t know why the coach waited. OU earned it fair and square.
Maybe at this point it should be a NFL type of system. The bowls are a dinosaur.
This year the participants with byes would be: Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Washington. Six at large teams: Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, UCF, Florida, LSU.
This system gives Notre Dame an incentive to join a conference in order to earn a bye. Notre Dame would be a natural fit to join the Big Ten.
Notre Dame played no one and didn’t even win a Conference game. It has no business playing for the national title!
A four team playoff is working just fine. If they went to eight, people would cry about teams #9-10 that missed the cut.
Georgia had their chance. They could have backed Alabama up but Kirby Smart decided to fake a punt at midfield with just enough time for Alabama to score and leave nothing on the clock. Georgia also got clobbered pretty good at Baton Rouge by LSU.
