Ken Berry, the rubber-legged actor who delighted TV viewers as the blundering Capt. Wilton Parmenter on F Troop and as the accident-prone Vinton Harper on Mama's Family, has died. He was 85.
Berry, an agile song-and-dance man who was encouraged in show business by his U.S. Army sergeant, future Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy, died Saturday, his ex-wife, Jackie Joseph-Lawrence, reported.
The amiable Berry also was known for starring as town councilor Sam Jones on Mayberry R.F.D., the spinoff of The Andy Griffith Show that was created by CBS after Griffith exited the series then the No. 1 show in the ratings after its eighth and final season.
Berry came to fame for portraying the greenhorn Captain Parmenter on ABC's F Troop, which aired for only two seasons (65 episodes from September 1965 through April 1967) but lived on in syndication for decades.

RIP
he seemed like a good guy
I liked him. Never watched Mama’s Family but saw a some.
I watched F Troop as a kid. Liked Larry Storch.
Mayberry RFD was okay I guess.
I was just thinking about him the other day...
He was funny on Mama’s Family, but Mayberry RFD was just painfully awful.
He and Carol Burnett were great together. He guested often on her variety show, which gave him a chance to show how good a song-and-dance man he was. An underrated talent, for sure.
Sequels to blockbuster TV shows are usually painful.
Ken was on shows I haven’t thought about in decades.
He acted on Hazel, which starred actress Shirley Booth.
Hazel is going way back, because I recall when my family watched it at night, the show following Hazel was the Danny Thomas Show. We are talking TV ICE Age here! They were all fun, family friendly shows.
I expect Tim Conway will be going the same way very soon.
Tim will be having a birthday soon, Dec. 15th. Born in 1933.
Trivia: 1933 is three years after Thomas Edison died.
Wow. Haven’t thought about that show in a generation. F Troop was the best. The neighbor kid, who I am actually still friends with, ran around with a hat like Storch’s. We were big fans of that show.
True.
Same for movies. I still haven’t gotten over the horror of Grease 2.
I still havent gotten over the horror of The Godfather III.
Probably so; pretty sure that I heard Tim Jr say his dad is in bad health.
God Bless him and RIP. He seemed so very nice and likable. Thanks to a METV and a few other stations, I get to watching things I missed or haven’t thought of in ages. Mama’s family is something I watch when I can. Just watched a few tonight. And now this sad news. May he be with our Heavenly Father proving lots of laughs and love to all.
Who has?
Yes. LOL. That was another disaster.
Years ago, I remember telling my nephew to only watch the original Predator... because the sequels weren’t worth his time.
The Matrix is another. Brilliant film with a message entirely opposite of what its creators intended, LOL!
When the movie made them a lot of money, they said to themselves Let's make some more money! and it was off to the races with the crappy sequels.
Sgt. Nimoy. I did not know that.
(pretend there’s a Johnny Carson pic here)
Best thing about Mama’s Family was Judy Landers...
Where the heck are we?
