Since it’s clear that Daniel Craig (the sixth actor to officially play Bond since 1962) has one foot out the door of the Aston-Martin, the conversation about diversifying 007 has been happening in earnest. Is one of Hollywood’s oldest properties ready for a reboot?
A new survey, conducted by Morning Consult and the Hollywood Reporter, asked 2,201 U.S. adults how they would feel about the fictional spy shifting demographics: from British to American, from male to female, from straight to gay, or from Caucasian to another ethnicity. The results show that a narrow majority support a black James Bond and most approve of a U.S.-born Bond — but the idea of a female, Hispanic, Asian or gay Bond is still hard for most Americans to wrap their heads around.
According to the data, 49 percent of American adults support the idea of a black actor playing Bond. When asked specifically if fan favorite (and 2018’s Sexiest Man Alive) Idris Elba should play the character, 36 percent of men and 43 percent of women surveyed said, “Yes, please!”
But what about making the character a different ethnicity? Perhaps without someone as obvious as Elba in mind, the participants were more tepid about a Hispanic Bond (19 percent of adults strongly support this casting) or an Asian Bond (17 percent of adults strongly support the change).
There has also been a lot of discussion in film circles about the possibility of a female Bond. Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli recently said she’s against it, and survey participants seem to agree. …

I’m not a Bond fan, would never read the stories or buy a movie ticket but a black, British Bond would be fine with me. He must be a Man, must be British and must like his women (and not to borrow their clothes).

Never watched or liked James Bond but if they want a Brown Bond the perfect guy is Shemar Moore.Gorgeous and he has “it” IMO .

The “it's only a movie” line always irritated me. That being said, I can understand that one might think other issues have more importance. Though I'd like to think we can walk and cheer bubble gum at the same time. And I might be able to enjoy a good Bond move with Elba playing the lead. I'll just know I'm not watching a realistic portrayal of James Bond any more than I would watching a white actor playing MLK.
The reason, I believe, for your objection is not that Elba would be chosen because he's a good actor, but because of his skin color. Diversity for diversity's sake, while still decrying “whitewashing.” And that's not a good thing.

The attempt to play the race card by that other poster in 118 was quite telling when coupled with their 91 and 120.

Don’t know why that would be so difficult. There are plenty of black people scattered throughout the British Isles, so the character can be that.
I dont care what color he is, but _HE_ has to be British, and straight.
The people polled for “yes” on SJW destruction of such film franchises are not the AUDIENCE for James Bond flicks.
You’re right. Movies are never “just movies”, we have to face facts that the average American’s worldview is shaped by television and movies. People’s views on history, law, culture, morality, all of this is based off of what they see on TV.
We may want to snicker and decry the state of society, but that’s the paradigm we live in. Working on campaigns and obsessing over elections only goes so far. If you don’t believe me look at how the Gay Rights Movement succeeded. Prop 8 may have been voted in, but propaganda pushed through television like Will & Grace brainwashed the judicial system enough to strike it down. If you don’t like where the transgender agenda is going, we have to confront the fact that Hollywood has already begun indoctrinating people about it.
Winning an election in 2 years is pointless if in 20 years everyone is convinced your ideals are evil. We have ceded control over the culture and we have lost badly for decades because of it. We need to acknowledge this and reclaim it. Elections are not separate from this, and politics is not divorced from culture. In fact culture dictates politics.
