These are the new rules for reporters during presidential press conferences:
(1) A journalist called upon to ask a question will ask a single question and then will yield the floor to other journalists;
(2) At the discretion of the President or other White House official taking questions, a follow-up question or questions may be permitted; and where a follow up has been allowed and asked, the questioner will then yield the floor;
(3) Yielding the floor includes, when applicable, physically surrendering the microphone to White House staff for use by the next questioner;
(4) Failure to abide by any of rules (1)-(3) may result in suspension or revocation of the journalists hard pass.

Well, now all the other journalists can thank Acosta for ruining it for them.
Or maybe giving them a fair chance to do their jobs.
I suppose it depends some on who you are.
Well, if you’re going to act like children, then expect to get treated like them.
From what I can see, these seem like reasonable rules for conducting press conferences given the proliferation of the press corps and other changes since press conferences were instituted. An alternative which has been suggested, and which I’m sure the self-described ‘journalists’ of the White House Press Corps would hate, would be to end the practice of press conferences altogether, have the Presidential spokespersons hand out written press releases, and take no questions. The POTUS could grant personal interviews to selected reporters, or not, at his discretion. And the whole concept of a White House Press Corps, with special passes and special access to the White House Grounds, and so on, could just go away if they do not behave themselves.
Several news outlets already are saying they WILL ask follow-up questions. I have a hunch enforcement of the one-question rule will seldom be enforced. It will be interesting to see.
It has been a while since Sanders has given one. She’s due.
Many journalists, like kindergarteners, need rules so simply stated just as teachers do for 5 year olds. Some like Acosta are not mature enough to act appropriately as a journalist.
You can bet that Acosta will not be given another chance if he approaches Trump in a combative fashion again.
I predict he wont have his hard pass for more than 6 more months.
It looks like April Ryan had a “Dear Diary” moment.
I agree. Do away with the White House Press Corps entirely! It’s like inviting the enemy to dinner. Why bother?
Otherwise, I want MY hard pass. What am I, chopped liver?
No more Mr. Nice Guy, I say. Doesn’t work.
Exactly, no one cares what they ask or say.
Amazing that you have to instruct adults how to behave.
Remember way back in the beginning when they were going to limit numbers and do random selection. Nooooo, we can’t have that “important” ones may not get in. So, then it was move to room across street to accommodate every one. Nooooo, we must be in the white house if we are white house press.
Nothing but a bunch of spoiled, self idolizing, brats thinking they are important.
Shut it down. Let’em stand out on the street. There is not anything of value comes from a single person in the room.
This would mean an end to the carting around on AF1 these rabid dogs of DC. Why should the taxpayers be responsible for their cost of freighting? Mr. President, put the cage on the roof of your plane and ride in peace!
I think the ‘yield’ rule will be challenged with various tirades in the press room, and the Q and A session will be halted for five to ten minutes while the child-reporter does his tirade. After you’ve encountered five of six of these three-hour sessions...most of the press are going to be hostile to the child-reporters and the thug-like journalism will halt.
My humble guess is that Acosta won’t be able to handle this, and he’ll be dumped at least three or four times before some judge just says ‘that’s it’....you won’t get a ‘pass-card’ to return to the WH.
The journalist’s will get together prior to press conferences, and they will develop their own talking points and the same questions will get asked except they will be asked by different reporters. What the WH needs to do is put out a daily or weekly press release with the administration’s talking points. and have press conferences far fewer than we are presently witnessing.
The Pentagon, every morning gleans articles pertinent to the mission and their directives and it’s called the early bird. Maybe the White House ought to adopt a similar strategy put out an early bird and with no questions asked it would be a much smoother communication process then what we are presently witnessing.
The press is on a mission, a smear campaign, and that is the fact. In my opinion, one cannot deny the fact that the Press is very biased. Very biased to conservative politicians or conservative Administrations. Because they want to drive their own agenda, their own vision, and the vision of other Puppet Masters who they kowtow to on a daily basis.
Great point! Nobody cares what they say or ask. Their questions are neither constructive or informative. With Trump they desire to take him down. With Obama they kissed his ass.
These are reports, not adults.
reporters not adults.
Nothing there about prohibition on physical battery of another human being. In polite society it shouldn’t have to be in writing, but we’re talking about Jim AccostHer here.
Looking for a press release from a couple days back that indicated WH has put Ass-costa on notice that his pass will be under immediate review once the TRO expires.
The judge focued on ‘due process’ (laughable in this case) and advance notice as the two major concerns.
WH sent a letter to Ass-costa (notice) outlining his errant actions. In the letter they provided a window of time for him to challenge the charge or final decision (due process).
Might have to get some more popcorn...
They are precisely the convention which ruled the day until the corporate media decided to go all #Resistance.
