A British newspaper is reporting lecturers at a university have been told not to use capital letters in assignments because it might frighten students into failure. The Express detailed a memo it obtained that was sent out to Leeds Trinity's School of Journalism staff. The staff was told to "write in a helpful, warm tone, avoiding officious language and negative instructions," according to The Express. The Express says course leaders told them capitalizing specific letters could emphasize the difficulty or importance of an assignment. In a memo the newspaper obtained, it says, "Despite our best attempts to explain assessment tasks, any lack of clarity can generate anxiety and even discourage students from attempting the assessment at all."

As someone who is prone to just winging it, I find this LOL-worthy.
Journalism is already degraded. Note that ALL CAPS is given in the headline, while the article and its source say only ‘capital letters.’

I KNEW FEW here like or respect Sylvester Stallone, and you may have valid reasons, but the following speech from one of his movies IS AS CONSERVATIVE A STATEMENT AS ONE GETS:
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. Maybe THAT should be taught in college classes.
Every sensible person should write a letter of objection to the University, IN ALL CAPS!

God forbid the “perfessers” scare “the children” with caps. I guess we could blame the Sesame Street puppets for initially
scaring the crap out of them with caps when they were young.
