A long-talked-about revival of CBS cult fave drama series Northern Exposure is moving forward. The project has been put in development at CBS with original series star Rob Morrow set to reprise his role and executive produce. It hails from original series co-creators Josh Brand and John Falsey, actor John Corbett, Morrow, Ben Silverman and Universal TV.
Written by Brand, the revival centers on Dr. Joel Fleischman, played by Morrow, who returns to Cicely, Alaska, for the funeral of an old friend and finds a new set of quirky characters and reunites with old ones in this continuation of the classic series.
Brand executive produces with Falsey, Morrow and Silverman. Corbett produces. Universal TV is the studio.
The quirky comedic drama series ran on CBS from 1990 to 1995. During its 110-episode run it received a total of 57 award nominations, winning 27, including the 1992 Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, two additional Primetime Emmy Awards, four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globes.
Cast and creatives of the original series reunited at the 2017 ATX Television Festival in Austin to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the former CBS series premiere, and of course talked turned to a potential revival. We would love it. [Rob Morrow] has been working, trying to get them to do it Im sure we all would agree that wed love to see it, Brand said, contending that the series could play well in the current TV landscape. Its of a time, but its also not of a time.
Brand and Falsey also were behind award-winning shows St. Elsewhere and Ill Fly Away.
Morrows recent credits include the role of Adam DiGiulio on Billions and a guest role on Chicago P.D.
Corbett is known for his roles as Josiah Flash Bacon on FXs Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll and Seth Holt on Parenthood.
If the project moves forward, it would be the latest in a string of broadcast TV revivals, joining Murphy Brown at CBS. ABC revived then canceled Roseanne, bringing it back as The Conners. A Veronica Mars revival limited series also is set at Hulu.
Morrow and Corbett are repped by Gersh.
Rehashing old shows is all hollywood can do anymore. Its hard to be creative when youre filled with liberal hate. People are tired of their propaganda filled flops.
I can't wait for the reboot.
The creativity of Hollywood never ceases to impress. The talent and imagination is fathomless, if not lazy.
I liked it - but a remake might turn out like the new Magnum - haven’t even bothered to tune in to it because of the previews....
I liked that show a lot, but I don’t think a revival could be as good.
“Last saw Corbett in an older movie. He played a yuppie hit man”
He was the male lead in the two My Big Fat Greek Wedding movies. Also Bo Dereck is hid long time partner.
And there will be an outcry if President Trump doesn’t attend opening night at Ford’s theater.
You can bet Janine Turner won’t be invited back.
Too Conservative.
Some of them were good, but for me it never grabbed me like the original. Perhaps it was because I was older which probably played the biggest part, but I think new characters also made it less enjoyable, for me. I could see why people liked it. I always was weird. 8>) So even though it lasted longer and had probably twice the number of episodes, I just never could get into it like I did the first series. Though I did enjoy watching it occasionally, just not steadily.
I hated TNG!
1. Every time Picard opened his mouth, I knew something monotonous, boring & long winded was going to happen.
2. I kept wishing Data had an off button or at least a plug I could pull! I was never sure what his MOS was! Vending machine repairman or vending machine?
3. DiGeordi - He’s seeing in the infrared? WTF? They can warp space but can’t make artificial eyes? B5 technology could do that!
4. Counselor Trois - Piccard brings his high school guidance counselor along? Piccard still not sure what he wants his career to be when he grows up? Well starship captain isn’t it!
I could go on!
I don’t think I made it through a single episode!
I actually tried to make myself like it! I couldn’t!
Every time there was a Borg episode I wanted the Borg to assimilate them!
I actually preferred Deep Space 9. The characters were far less annoying as were the plots.
I am having a similar problem with Rodenberry’s Andromeda. (The DVDs were given to me as a birthday gift. Its the thought that counts!) The plots are ridiculous! The main characters are so annoying you keep wanting them to get killed! All the planetary scenes look like they are reusing sets & costuming from Sorbo’s Hercules series. (That’s another one! Ugh!! Why is Hercules in pants & not a chiton? Don’t any of these Hollywood writers read? Any do the least smidgen of research before they write?)
He was great in Wargames.
I know the author of the book, I don’t think they have consulted the original brains behind the show. I have low expectations for this show.
DVDs so Expensive,,,!
I’ve wondered why.
I’ve found half of the series,
Season 3 being my favorite so far.
The complete series is Very
Expensive on eBay,,,
Thanks.
Isn’t Corbett a right leaning Libertarian as well?
noooooo!!! the first few seasons were gold, then it petered out...let it RIP.
