I have always thought these immigrants were relieving themselves in the fields but WHY only romaine lettuce??? What about strawberries, blueberries, head lettuce, potatoes, radishes, ANY fruit or vegetables grown ON the ground!!!

I pulled up getty images of e coli on stomata of leaf lettuce and spinach. I also found papers specific to romaine that talk about infections in the cuts of leafs that won't wash off. I think the stomata size is key, slightly larger than the e coli.

Other than that the paper talked about used of manure and "biosolids" as the underlying cause.
