Ellen Pompeo took a stand in an on camera interview for Net-A-Porter, calling out the publication during an actress roundtable interview. The Greys Anatomy star appeared in the video interview opposite Gina Rodriguez, Gabrielle Union, and Emma Roberts. When the conversation turned to representation in front of and behind the camera, Pompeo took a moment to address the elephant in the room and advocate for more inclusive sets of all shapes and sizes.
This day has been incredible, and theres a ton of women in the room. But I dont see enough color, Pompeo said about the Net-A-Porter set. I didnt see enough color when I walked in the room today.
I had a meeting with a director of another endorsement project that Im doing where I said, You know, when I show up on set, I would like to see the crew look like the world that I walk around in everyday,' the actress continued. I think its up to all productions to make sure that your crew looks like the world we see. As Caucasian people, its our job. Its our task. Its our responsibility to make sure we speak up in every single room we walk into [and say] this is not ok and that we can all do better. Its our job. Weve created the problem.
Pompeo has been one of the most outspoken actresses when it comes to advocating for inclusive film and television sets and gender parity. The actress made headlines earlier this year for coming forward about her fight to get the salary she deserved after leading Greys Anatomy for over 14 seasons. Following her comments about the Net-A-Porter set, Pompeos co-interviews saluted her with a cheers.
Greys Anatomy is currently in its 15th season on ABC. Watch the Net-A-Porter video interview in its entirety below. Pompeos comment begins around the 16-minute mark.
As Caucasian people, its our job.
no it isn’t. Caucasians hire people based on merit not colorism.
Designer clothes online - I’ve seen Melania Trump wears some of their goods.
There were 3 women..... It should have been 1 women, 1 guy, 1 whatever instead of the 3 actresses....
Thanks!
You’re welcome. :D
There aren’t enough old people like me.
Fit old people. Frail old people. Skinny, fat or tough as jerky. Old people make up a lot of the world except in commercials and television shows.
I think it must be an internet fashion site, a play on pret a porter, which means ready to wear fashion.
Another old hag trying to remain relevant a few minutes longer.
With a name like Net-A-Porter, it sounds like it started in British India, so what does she expect? Net-A-Porter sounds like it's moved into publishing, but it started out an elitists' fashion source. And only those in the know were aware of the VIP Preview. Weird that they're not all about equality...
Yes, virtue signaling. But it is truly the bigotry of low expectations and also the insensitivity that they dont think black people can see the patronizing. Its insulting.
I wish Mitch would have grabbed her box when he was drunk at that wedding.
Yes.
If she walks into a roomful of “color,” will she complain there aren’t enough whites represented?
Who is Ellen Pompeo? Is she related to the volcano? Actually, WHO CARES?
Another entertainment twit spouting the “racism” charge.
Isn’t she the one who used to go around shouting “I see colored people”?
There are more nuts in Hollywood than in all the Planters Peanut-butter factories in the US.
Other than both being named after Pompey the Great, there appears to be no connection.

What are the odds that she lives in a 85-90%+ white neighborhood?
Pretty poor, Id say.
More like 96-99%, Id bet.
Its our job. Weve created the problem
The most important lie of our time.
>>As Caucasian people, its our job.
Caucasian is a phony category and it isn’t used globally.
>>She makes an estimated $20 million per year.
Does she share that with everyone on the project, including those behind the camera?
Why did she demand more money?
Didn’t Obambi say that at some point you’ve made enough money?
>>It is up to white people to not step into a room if there isnt enough color in the room.
White people to the back of the bus. Now.
