LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) - A state senator in Kentucky says companies should be allowed to discriminate against people who smoke.
Republican Sen. John Schickel of Union pre-filed his proposal this week. The bill would remove smokers from the protected classes outlined in Kentucky’s employment anti-discrimination law and allow employers to lawfully refuse to hire or terminate people who smoke.

I even worked manufacturing at one point. Ran circles around everyone else in the dept.
I’ve seen plenty of non smokers blow entire days, if not weeks, on water cooler conversation and internet browsing.
You’re either a good worker or not.
Some folks just really hate smokers (you may have noticed).
I’ve worked with both smokers and non. The nons stand outside of their coworkers cubes and chit chat- then they go back to their desks and take and make personal phone calls. One coworker, a non smoker comes in at 8 her starting time, goes to the kitchen makes her her special coffee then slices up her veggies and fruits then makes her oatmeal in microwave then puts it all on a tray takes her desk and eats her breakfast and surfs the internet until 9 or so before she finally gets to work. Smokers take 2 -3 15min breaks and come back and work. That is what I have noticed working at my job for 30 years.
I have had two "sick days" in 5 years. Both were due to flu. Contracted from another employee who hacked his lungs out in every direction. As for "breaks", my profession has few "breaks", to begin with. Those "breaks" taken are for lunch and hitting the outhouse.
The smug moral superiority of the pure and untainted anti smoking bigots/NAZIs is just as repugnant as any filthy and disgusting Liberal/Leftist.
Too bad FR has a dirty underclass that emulates the gutter trash of the demoncrats.

A new Chevy Caprice company car smelled so good I could bring myself to smoke in it.
I work with a girl, non smoker who lives 5 min from home. She takes 2 hour lunches, she works maybe 3 hours in am goes to lunch, comes back works and hour or so then has leave to run errands then comes back for another hour or so. While I sit there and take my two 15 min breaks and half hour lunch. NON smokers abuse work time as well as some smokers.
I support a bill to charge higher insurance for smokers but not to fire or not hire people because they choose to smoke, nicotetine is not illegal substance. If they go that route they should charge people who are obese as they tend to have hip, back, ankle issues.
If anything maybe they should make nicotine illegal.
Add all the zolofts Prozac... to the list. Let’s also add hormone replacement therapy to it also. Birth contol is another.
I don’t smoke, but smokers don’t bother me. I go out into the breezeway with them having a smoke. I don’t mind 1st or 2nd hand smoke as long as I’m not in a confined area. I do agree it’s likely bad for them and it is a dirty habit.
Screw this guy and you Freepers here cutting on tobacco users.....We would not have a Constitutional Republic if it wasn’t for TOBACCO.....you few who are ranking on smokers are terrible especially the guy who “used” to smoke!...Nothing worse than a reformed smoker of drinker.
I have an idea, spread the word that the invading caravans are ALL smokers. The rabid hatred of smokers will undoubtedly get the boarder wall built in a flash.
I worked at a university where the lady catbert was a heavy drinker.
One commonly known event was her coming to work in a long coat with last night’s lingerie on underneath and wreaking of the sauce on at least one occasion.
She would change in her office and take a couple of hours to sober up.
She sounds like a lot of state employees I used to work around when I was a gov-co employee.

Yep,and they are the very people who rail against the “Nanny State”,global warming,and the banning of plastic straws.

Some of it is, but women just use healthcare more.
Part of it is that women are more responsible with their health and will go to the doctor when a man won’t. (for the same condition).
But for what ever reason they should pay more because they use it more. Just like men pay more for Auto and Life insurance.
