Barely 3 months after release Jim Morrison was dead. And that was "The End" of one of the truly great bands of the 60's.

Or both.
I have always liked "The End." It seems to be about the November 1, 1963 coup d'etat in South Vietnam. In the song's lyrics, I discern references to major players in the event including Ngo Dinh Diem, Duong Van Minh and Tran Le Xuan as well as the the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization, the Warsaw Pact, and the US State Department.
However, I may be the only one who has ever come up with this interpretation.
“Let me tell you something. We need a two and a half hour movie about the Doors? Folks, no we don’t. I can sum it up for you in five seconds, ok. I’m drunk. I’m nobody. I’m drunk. I’m famous. I’m drunk. I’m f...... dead. There’s the whole movie, ok!? ‘Big Fat Dead Guy In a Bath Tub’, there’s your title for you.”
- Dennis Leary
I always thought it referred to a battle/apocalyptic event somewhere in the far east-mostly because that was what I was told by my cousins and friends who served in Nam-it does make sense...
