I was curious what a “chiminea” was. So I looked it up, and found that it was slightly misspelled (in the original article). Here’s what I found in Dictionary:
chimenea: n.
“free-standing fireplace,” 20c., from Mexican Spanish. literally “chimney,” from Spanish, ultimately from Latin caminata (see chimney).
A bunch of parents on the schoolboard got pissed.
My science teacher in High School was pretty ticked when he found out Id mixed up 15 ccs or so of Nitroglycerin in his lab.
He and I disposed of it properly, if rather loudly, and I was banned from the lab for 2 weeks.

There is always nitrogen triiodide.
I would bet he remembered the incident fondly later and retold it as a funny story.
I wish I had forced myself to stick to chemistry, as i didn’t need the science credit and dropped chem for more history. It didn’t seem to me like something that I would ever use. Later in life I came to the conclusion that the type of mathematics used in chemistry would have been applicable to other things.

I actually ran into him at my 20 year reunion. He was tending bar, believe it or not. He took one look at me and said I thought you blew yourself up ten years ago!
We had a good laugh.

Tannerite (we used a small block of C4), 5 lbs of sugar, a flare, a rifle bullet and some basic hardware from the store and you can make a bomb that will do a good job of destroying a house.
US Army improvised explosives class (Germany 1983) was a LOT of fun. [grin]

Uncle Fester with hair!
Yeah, that would be a good area to build bombs in your yard. Some big hidden properties over there in those canyon streets off Newport.
That area feels very rural and many homes are sprawling ranch styles with huge front and back yards. Im sure his mom was thrilled!
