My science teacher in High School was pretty ticked when he found out I’d mixed up 15 cc’s or so of Nitroglycerin in his lab.
He and I disposed of it properly, if rather loudly, and I was banned from the lab for 2 weeks.

I would bet he remembered the incident fondly later and retold it as a funny story.
I wish I had forced myself to stick to chemistry, as i didn’t need the science credit and dropped chem for more history. It didn’t seem to me like something that I would ever use. Later in life I came to the conclusion that the type of mathematics used in chemistry would have been applicable to other things.
