We would like the input of best places from you Freepers. Our Orange County, CA home will probably sell for about $900,000. Yes, we've been fortunate besides making good decisions.

We've looked at Reno, NV for some time with no state taxes, but their gov is turning blue.
Then there is Arizona with their lax gun laws, but they are also turning blue.
New Mexico? Forget it ... hippies and more hippies.
Texas? Maybe. But where don't they have mass illegals and bugs and socialists? Maybe western Texas?
Southern Utah?

We want to relocate in the West for family reasons. Pleas help. We have got to get out here! We thought we'd be okay living out our life in our home, but now with the Socialist super-majority we will get hammered.

Its the reverse Okies.

High net-worth people and businesses loading up their possessions and fleeing a dustbowl of democratic-socialist destruction.

There are still wide swaths of Texas that are deep red. Sadly, Williamson County, where I live now, just north of Austin, has turned purple from all the Austin libs moving to Round Rock.

Texas has a wide range of terrain and climate. Any particular setting you are looking for? The Hill Country west of Austin is still pretty red and is very nice country.

Don’t come to Oklahoma. Nothing here but dirt roads and one-room “School-houses”. (j/k)

If you are fleeing CA (as I will be soon), there is no point in going to any of the Western coastal states. Southern Oregon is the best bet for those, but it’s no different than Northern CA (I love both, but still at the mercy of the entire state’s laws, politics, and taxes). Idaho is now being over-run by blue California transplants. Wyoming is a state we are looking at. Perhaps Montana.

I really like Idaho, but disappointed with the growth in the past couple of years.

No matter where you escape to, the cancer will follow. I got the hell out of California 40 years ago, and never looked back; smartest thing I ever did. But I’m in Illinois now, which is almost as blue as California. I’m not running any more. I’ll make my stand here. Better to die on my feet than live on my knees.

I rarely post Vanity articles, but this one can determine the fate of our future. We thought we would be here until end days, but CA is turning into Socialist dictatorship.

Please help with any State or community that you think we would like and/or fit into. Thank you for any replies.

Reno has a lot of Republican clubs. Scottsdale had wonderful winters but the summers became unbearable. Some them spent their winters in Flagstaff. Reno is ‘up and coming’ even though I saw it as an armpit. I would give Idaho a try. Never been there.

I did just what you are doing a couple of years back. Have not regretted it once. I chose the North Texas region somewhat near Dallas. Aside from no state income tax you can look forward to electricity in the .10 cents/kWh versus .30 or more (my power bill this month is $86 for a 3400sq ft split level house) , gas is around $1 per gallon cheaper, car registration is 1/2 or better. The people are MUCH more friendly, trump pence signs are still displayed here and there. And there is space. There are occasional traffic jams but you will laugh at them if you are OC acclimated.

Good luck to you and you will not regret it

Reno gets my vote.
No state income tax, low property taxes, good 2nd Amendment laws.

And still close to those magnificent mountains.

Housing prices are rising, but depending on how much of that $900k you put in your pocket it shouldn’t be an issue.

You can buy a very nice home in Reno for $400k. Very nice.

And it’s somewhat civilized.

Do your homework on small to medium sized towns. Wikipedia gives voting, climate and demographic info on nearly every town entry.

I’d pick an overwhelmingly conservative populace in a safe place with decent weather. Preferably Texas. In a state that size, there are plenty of places to insulate yourselves.
