Since California now has a super majority in the Assembly/Senate and can and will legislate any tax or thing their little Socialist hearts desire, we are now committed to leaving. We will be part of the exodus from the Socialist Republic of California. It's going to be a historical migration within our Nation, if not already.
Since we are both Conservatives, we won't be bringing any of the Liberal/Socialist ideals with us and would make good neighbors.
“The Wife doesn’t like the tiny bit of snow it gets, but she could live with it and is coming around.”
And over 250 sunny days per year.
The Old Southwest is a great neighborhood. Almost hippy, good food and drink and only a mile or two from the strip.
And there’s more national entertainment that goes to Reno than any city of its size in America. The Reno Aces are a great little AAA ball club. They have a Whole Foods, Co-Op and overall it’s a fit little city.
Yeah, it’s a little nippy in the winter if you’re used to Socal or AZ. But still quite moderate compared to the rest of the country. And it gets to 100 in the summer sometimes, with humidity never above 20%.
Yes. It really is a nice area and best of both worlds. Country culture but with all the amenities one would need.
They really could really use more conservative votes in that county to hold off the encroachment.

I believe you mis-read TheDandyMan's comments and owe him/her an apology.
Heading there as soon as I can retire. My current home (Virginia) is becoming almost indistinguishable from Maryland or New Jersey. The taxes haven’t (quite) reached their levels, but after two or three more Democrat governors, they will.
Tennessee. Sounds good to me.
Colorado is physically gorgeous and the economy is resilient for now. Unfortunately politically we have taken a hard left turn and will likely be California in the next decade
You need a location with traditional Christian values.
Pray for revival.
I apologize for jumping to quick to defend. Please forgive me ... you meant no ill will. Best.
“However, southern AZ is too damn hot for me, but we’re looking at Prescott or Flagstaff. “
Flagstaff is very appealing with the forests and 4 season climate. But it is infested with democrats because of Northern AZ Univ. Tucson is hot and infested because of U of AZ. Perhaps give thought to exurban Phoenix although hotter than Tucson.
I did. See my latest post above.
He was being sarcastic. Sort of. We don’t mind Californians moving to Idaho, as long as they don’t bring liberalism with them. They’ve wrecked California, don’t wreck Idaho too!
I’m a third generation Californian (left almost 25 years ago), but I’ve been here for 12 years and love it.
I did mis-read and apologized.
That really sums it up. Conservatives don’t feel a need to tell others how to live their lives. Lefties want nothing more than to control every single aspect of YOUR life. And they aren’t happy until they can control everybody’s life. That’s precisely why they are totalitarians and despots.
Move to Virginia. Lots of economic opportunity, particularly in NOVA. Yes, it’s turned blue but just barely (might be salvageable).
And, like California, you can get from ocean to mountains in a day.
Unlike California, you’d better be able to tolerate some humidity.
Do you prefer a small town....?
Do you four seasons?
Etc..Etc...
I left SoCal in 97-98....never looked back.
Amarillo gets a TON of snow....windy snow....every winter.
Lubbock will get snow, but nothing like Amarillo.
West of Austin and San Antonio are nice.
Eastern Texas is supposed to be spectacular, with streams and lakes and rolling deciduous forests, according to those I know who live there ...
“Note that any of the towns out there with Port in their name (Angeles, Townsend) is a socialist enclave.”
LOL...that is certainly a good marker these days. When I first started working out of college in the early 70s, any town with “Port” in the name was a hard-working blue collar port or mill town. I was on the startup crew for a new red liquor boiler in the paper mill in Port Angeles. Also see “Port Gamble.”
“We dont mind Californians moving to Idaho, as long as they dont bring liberalism with them.”
Then you would welcome me from Illinois who despises liberalism with every fiber of my formerly fit body?
There was a time when I would have recommended Colorado. No longer.
Gay Dem Gov (coming)
Dem State Senate
Dem State House
Yep, Colorado is now a Dem stronghold.
Looking to create an exit strategy myself.
“You do get a little winter up in Flagstaff because of elevation.”
“A little winter” - LOL. I lived east of there in the White Mountains at 7,500 feet for the fall / winter / spring of ‘76 - ‘77. That was the hardest winter I’ve experienced anywhere! Hawley Lake not far from me was the coldest spot in the lower 48 several times during that winter. Deep snow and COLD. But, outside winter, the most spectacular seasons anywhere.
