I’ve been married over 40 years. We got engaged in high school and my ring cost $300, which was a lot for an 18 y.o. kid to spend. The marriage has been happy and lasted. The ring is in a drawer. I still have it but it’s too small for my 60 year old finger :-)
Sounds like our story. We were moving some furniture for my in-laws when the U-haul trailer became unhitched and put a dent in his car. Since U-haul attached the trailer themselves, there was a settlement- for roughly $300. My ring came as soon as the check cleared. Unfortunately, the diamond fell out one day while I was hiking in the woods, never to be found again.
My hubby later got me one three times the size of the original. I never had the heart to tell him it stuck out too far. At the time, it kept scratching my daughter’s little arm when we would hold hands, and I reluctantly quit wearing it. I still rarely wear it, as I am not a fancy woman, and it doesn’t work with gardening, or scrubbing toilets or making meatloaf. But neither of us care much. We still love each other.
A jeweler can stretch the band to fit. They have a machine for it. Gold is ductile.
Been married for 36 years. He was in college and working when he gave me the ring which cost about $235 (he still has the receipt somewhere). It was a simple white gold band with an itty-bitty diamond but he picked it out and gave it to me so I was happy. He was 20 and I was 19 when we married. It may have been up-sized a little but I’m wearing the ring right now.
