[The tax bill gave a tax cut to at least 80% of the voters in my state, but they voted overwhelmingly for Democrats because]
No surprise there. But I bet there were plenty of people in purple states who got tax hikes because they make just enough to get a bigger tax bill, thanks to the SALT and other tax deduction limits, , but not enough to get big tax cuts. I was one of that category of people. Based on taxpayer percentile numbers, I have plenty of company - probably a good 5% of taxpayers who would normally vote Republican. Trump’s instincts were right. He should have shelved Ivanka’s retarded non-refundable child care tax credit and hiked the top tax bracket in order to avoid alienating that subset of voters. But Ryan had to have his way. Trump will pay the price for the next two years. And House Republicans will now have to deal with seats in swing states that are gerrymandered to favor Democrats during redistricting in 2020.

In my area, most of the taxpayers who were affected by the SALT deduction limit actually came out ahead -- because the AMT had eliminated the SALT deduction for them already anyway. The elimination of the AMT gave them a tax break in exchange for the elimination of SALT deductions they never had in the first place.
