Bohemian Rhapsody is proving to be box office dynamite (with a laser beam?).
Twentieth Century Foxs foot-stomping biopic about the influential British rock band Queen is on track to sell an estimated $50 million in tickets at 4,000 theaters in the U.S. and Canada this weekend, far exceeding expectations and easily dethroning Halloween as the No. 1 film in North America. Starring Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) as Queens charismatic frontman, Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody will notch the second biggest opening for a music biopic ever, behind 2015s Straight Outta Compton ($60.2 million).
Heading into the weekend, the film had been projected to debut in the $35 million to $40 million range. It cost about $52 million to make. Overseas, it will add about $72.5 million in ticket sales this weekend.

Out of pure boredom, maybe 3 weeks ago, I left the tv on the channel that shows a lot of the fame and scandal shows.
One of Freddies friends tried to talk to him about hiv and aids which was new at the time.
He said Freddy just brushed it off and said “Darling I’m doing everything with everyone”.
Sadly we know how that worked out.
One documentary I watched on the band was made before Freddy died.
He had developed aids and was doing badly.
The band stopped in to see him once when his legs were giving him pain.
One of the guys asked what it was doing to him so Freddy pulled up the legs of his sweat pants to show him.
Freddy said he regretted showing them because Brian May left in tears.
Cant wait to see it. Huge fan.
He was more than gay; sadly he sought out every bathhouse and gay club in every city he played. Even after knowing about the gay virus. He was way out there with promiscuity, wayyyy out there. Very sad for everyone who loved his music.
His best friend was a woman and I believe she inherited a lot from him. But sexually he was into men. Not a shock.
I can wait till it’s on Directv. I don’t go to movies to many azzholes, cell phones and freaks.
Critics hated it because it wasn’t a depraved “R” film, and played down the gay angle.
It was great. Very well done. Freddy was a tortured soul and that was wonderfully shown.
Thats completely false. He IS the movie.....go see it.
Mary Austin inherited EVERYTHING.
Good to know. Thanks. :D
Thanks for the report. I’ll probably rent it on Netflix in a few months.
That is what I thought. Not done with the book yet.
I want to hear how good the music is in the movie.
I could take any movie that featured some of the music from Queen, if the music was really good. The story, accurate about the band’s members, or not, I care not about too much.
Saw it yesterday.
It is basically a Freddie Mercury biography.
He starts out the movie heterosexual, but is drawn into the gay lifestyle over time. It destroys his relationship with his wife/girlfriend. It strains and eventually breaks his relationship with his band. It exposes him to the disease that kills him.
It is not a positive portrayal of the homosexual lifestyle.
The music is great and Rami Malek deserves the Best Actot Academy Award for this portrayal of Freddie, but wont get it because the movie didnt portray gayness as all rainbows and unicorns.
Very well done movie.
Husband & I saw it today. Very good. Freddie Mercury was a musical genius. All of the band members were, or close to it. Thought the movie was handled tastefully, yet didnt shy away from the issues that ultimately killed FM.
I watched it the other day. I couldnt stand the guy that played Freddie Mercury. I thought it was a little campy. Still wasnt a bad way to spend 2 hours but after it was over I went to YouTube and watched some Queen live performances. Yeah it just wasnt close enough for me. But I liked Freddie Mercury.
This idiot leftist Katie Walsh complained that it showed his relationship with Mary Austin as the most positive in his life and that it showed him as a victim of predatory gay men. Well, Kate, he left his estate to Mary. The film was produced by Brian May and Roger Taylor. MAYBE they know a little more about it than you. Her reviews are full on SJW garbage.
I can not wait.
A terrible loss to the world.
At a time when there was not that much known about treating HIV yet.
And he used tremendous amounts of drugs and alcohol.
