OK, this is odd and I'm hoping someone more techie than me has an idea.

I get a text today from a number not in my contacts, it says:

Caller: "Please text me, I'm busy" Me: Sorry, who is this? C: I've been getting random calls from random numbers only to find out that the person with the number hasn't been calling me at all. This has been going on for over a year. Me: I don't have your number in my phone

Person then sends a screen cap of their recent calls showing that my number called them today.

C: Just so you don't think I'm a stalker freak or anything.

The article went to an Apple site. Nothing to do with weird calls.

On election evening 2016 I texted several friends in Hollywood asking them to text me, right after Trump won. (they were in the WeHo to celebrate Hillary winning....)

I explained I thought something may be wrong with my phone.

Didn’t hear from anyone for two days.

When finally did text me back I responded “Thanks! I figured out. I forgot to hit the Trump button...)

LOL Thanks.

I still sounds like a his number was spoofed for solicitation calls, but since it was used to call the same guy repeatedly, it might be more mischievous then that.

My iPhone 6 with IOS 12.0.1 doesn’t do that, fortunately. I have not upgraded yet to 12.1. I do use Malwarebytes which filters some of the suspected spoofed calls (not perfectly).

“Next is check your incoming call log, it will have the true number that called rather than the spoofed numberl”

If that were true, which it isn’t, it would be much easier to shut these operations down.

FWIW, Verizon told me they are awaiting FCC approval to issue and APP to stop ‘spoofing’.

Interesting. I have Verizon so I’ll watch this.
