Since that time, the projectone of the worlds most complex, large-scale civil engineering projects ever attemptedhas been plagued by fraud. In 2014, Venices then-mayor Giorgio Orsoni, along with 30 others, was arrested for charges including corruption, illicit party financing, and tax fraud totaling $6.8 billion. Orsoni was accused of taking roughly $635,000 (560,000) in illicit campaign financing from the consortium behind the flood barrier. Orsoni resigned and received a four-month suspended sentence. Willie Sutton's total take would be a 'nothing', on a highspeed rail project.
As I understand it, this is the worst flooding they’ve had in the last 6 years!!!!!!!!!! It’s historic!
Venice is flooding because that’s where the water is.
In 1953 my parents were in Venice. A tour guide told them the city was slowly sinking and would one day be flooded. My father would be sad to see this but not surprised.

Scientists tracked the elevation of Venice and its surrounding lagoons over a ten year period and have said that on average, the city is sinking up to two millimetres every year.
It’s thought the subsidence is due to plate tectonics as the Adriatic plate, on which Venice sits, is subducting beneath the Apennines Mountains and causing the city and its environs to drop slightly in elevation.
Yes, flooding because of ‘climate change’
I thought Fortune used to be kind of a right-ish magazine. Guess O’Sullivan’s Law strikes again.
Built on a Swamp means nothing ? LOL
Venice has always flooded.
But NOW, it’s serious, because climate change.
Oh good grief!
My cat farted, must be climate change.
Same thing is happening to the Atlantic coast.
Ive been to that magnificent city. Built, indeed, on a swamp by refugees from barabrians... the latter couldnt get their cavalry over the marshy ground and out to the swampy islands in the lagoon. The name means we go no farther. Those beautiful palaces churches etc are built on top of wooden pilings that are closing in on being 1000 years old. Supposedly the huge flood control project will prevent this sort of flooding, but its been under construction for fifteen years and wont be done for another four. Its the Big Dig, European style
Reminds me of New Orleans
Subsidence, pump out water, land sinks
Shoreline erosion, prevention of seasonal Mississippi flooding
Salt water incursion
The Crescent City is doomed
It’s just a matter of time

Hasn’t that city experienced flooding since it was built?.
Venice has been flooding for centuries. It’s built on subsiding land. The stupidity... It hurts!
Chopines from the 16th Century.
These shoes would allow the wearer to walk through water two feet deep without getting her feet wet.
Venice has been flooding for a long, long time.
“The regional governor for Veneto, Luca Zaia, said flooding this week could reach the levels of the 1966 flood that engulfed both Venice and Florence.”

Could allow the Mississippi River flow to Morgan City/Berwick as the natural processes attempted in 1973 flood. The Atchafalaya Basin hosted the main river channel in times past. Eventually the river will win the fight.
