In a region where 56.9% of residents own guns, if you force entry into a home and get shot, you deserve your Darwin Award. The odds just arent in your favor.
The region in this case is the beautiful state of Idaho, which takes the Bronze among all U.S. states in terms of gun ownership. Only two states (Arkansas and Alaska) can boast a more heavily armed population:
Nevertheless, since there is apparently no limit to stupidity, a 24-year-old man decided to take his chances and break into a Post Falls home at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. In short order, he made enough noise to awaken the man and woman who were sleeping there.
The home invader caused significant damage to interior property and aggressively ignored several commands to leave before the homeowner shot him several times with a handgun.
The Sheriffs office, as interviewed by KHQ, reported:
Preliminary, the investigation indicates a male and female were sleeping inside the residence and were awaken by loud crashing noises coming from inside their home. The male resident discovered an intruder had forced his way into the home through a door and was continuing to damage property inside. The resident confronted the intruder verbally telling him to leave. After being told several times to leave, the intruder, who also appears to have been armed during the incident, began aggressing both residents. The male resident fired several rounds from a handgun, which ultimately stopped the intruders attack.
PSA to those considering a career in burglary in Idaho: Youll get better odds in Vegas.
We’re #2! We’re #2!
PERCENT WHO (Are willing to tell some pollster that they) OWN GUNS.
I don’t believe that Mo is only 27% armed. At least in rural Mo
You don’t hear about this in Alaska, because people this stupid don’t survive the winters.
45% of people in Hawaii own Guns?
I thought their Gun Laws mirrored North Korea.
Color me shocked.
I find that Oregon seems a bit low too. EVERY Oregonian I know has at least 2 or 3 firearms in their homes. Then again, most of them are in rural or semi-rural areas...
I was surprised at that as well.
Is this one yours?
The numbers may be fairly accurate in states which demand government permission to legally own a firearm. In free states, not so much (see my tagline)
They shoulda called 911
Link?
"...percentage of households with guns..."
It looks like someone has figured out that we really can fix stupid!

I love living in northern Idaho. Neal Stephenson described the inhabitants as "gun nuts on a scale that make the Pathans look like Quakers." Guilty as charged, yer Honor...
I thought their Gun Laws mirrored North Korea.
Be interesting to know how they came up with these statistics. Many states have to official record. Hawaii does, at least of those recently bought (last few decades) but not those grandfathered in from before the registration laws and handed down. 80% lowers are of much interest for some reason.
Other than 10 round mag size restrictions (ignored by most for rifles) and the requirement to register with the state, there are few restrictions. The dreaded AR is very commonly seen on the range. No BS restrictions on them like California.
Guns scare me, so good thing they got dumped accidentally while fishing.
Yep....We sure are. :-)
I live in CA. I have two groups of Weapons.
One group are the Weapons I have had for decades that were not subject to Registration and / or handed down in the Family.
The rest were purchased when Registration was required here in CA, two Pistols and most recently some Long Guns which now also require Registration.
Of course the whole Registration thing is an Infringement, but here we are.
This is an urban/rural divide issue. States with huge metro areas are depressed compared to Rural Areas.
It is estimate that Texas has 2.5 privately owned guns per every man woman and child in the state.
I know many people who have dozens.
They also lie, they don’t want you to know they own them. Afraid of confiscation.
