Fall and winter is acqua alta season in Venice. The Italians have been building a system of flood gates to protect the city but construction has been ongoing for 15 years.

I don’t know my history of Venice. But I do wonder, what was the idea behind building a city in which the streets are canals? And is the city also a series of islands in a river?

We’ve been to Venice twice, both times in late September. Thankfully the weather was beautiful and sunny both times.
What a disappointment to the international tourists who are there right now, with 75% of the city being flooded. Venice is a beautiful mysterious city when it isn’t five feet under water, yikes.
