It's that time of year. I figured it was either going to be horror movies or a two hour YouTube video of German Beer music. So name your favorite/scariest horror movie (let's skip the political nightmares of a Hillary presidency & etc.).

The movie that stands out in my memory was the 1979 version of Salem's Lot. It was a two part TV special and like an idiot (I was 13) I watched both parts. I had never heard of Stephen King and had no clue what the movie was about. By time part 2 came around I knew it was a horror flick and watched it with my best friend two houses down from where I lived. When it came time to go home that night... if I had been timed I think I might have qualified for the US Olympic Track team. Link to one of the more disturbing scenes below.

The Exorcist, by far the scariest movie I have ever seen.

The Thing From Another World (1951). Parents took me to see it when I was 5. Hiding under seat for half of it. Still gives me the creeps.

Psycho. I was 11 and at a friends house. I was so scared that my friends mom put her hands over my eyes during the two worst scenes - the stabbing in the shower and the skeletal mother reveal. I still can't watch that movie.
The movie that made me the sickest was Das Boot.

It's hard to narrow down, even though I'm not a huge horror fan.
In terms of horror-comedy, Shaun of the Dead. Although Happy Death Day is also pretty good.
Cat's Eye, The Shining (original) and Carrie are probably my favorite horror films adapted from Stephen King works.
Beyond that, the original 13 Ghosts, Alien, Halloween, It Follows, and anything by Eli Roth is under consideration.

Prince of Darkness. Completely cheesy B-movie sci fi until the last 30 seconds of the film, which sent chills down my spine.

Psycho is one of the best films, period.
I'm not even a huge Hitchcock fan and I think that movie is brilliant.

Brilliant, but downright scary when you are 11 years-old.

Not big on the “horror” genre - but “The Shinning” was flat-out frightening. Still is.

Any of the Hillary - Bernie Sanders debates?! Seriously, the original The Exorcist scared the heck out of me.
