The old unabomber products were designed to detonate when someone REMOVED the device from the package or OPENED it. IOW, a mechanical trigger.
Some CNN intern working for Brennan opened the envelope (that wasn’t mailed), withdrew the object, laid it on the desk, took pictures...
You get the idea. This is cartoonish.
