This author is an idiot. The moon is actually gaining distance. Geosynchronous satellites orbit 22,000 miles higher than the space station and will never reenter. When the run low on positioning fuel they the last reserves to eject themselves even more miles father out into an eternal orbital graveyard, so they are out of the way.
