Golfers in St. Petersburg, Florida, were shocked when they saw a massive rattlesnake slither across the course.
Logan Ungerer and some friends were golfing at Mangrove Bay Golf Course on Columbus Day when Ungerer saw what looked like a stick blowing in the wind on the green, according to Fox 13.
Upon closer inspection, he realized it wasnt a stick at all it was a snake.
The creature was likely a diamondback rattlesnake, David Steen, a conservation biologist, told the Tampa Bay Times. Diamondbacks are said to be the largest venomous snake in North America, reaching up to eight feet in length, National Geographic reports.
Steen called the sighting unusual.
"Snakes are typically secretive creatures that have nothing to gain from interacting with people, so it is unusual for a snake like this to be found in the open on a golf course," Steen said. "It is likely that the rattlesnake was simply observed while traveling from one forest patch to another."

“I think you are supposed to let those play through.”
Yes, I think you’re right. I was running once, and there was one that big across the trail in front of me - sunning. As I approached he tilted his head to look at me, and I just stopped, turned around, and took a different route.
Well played, Sir. Well played indeed.
I hear you.
Groan....
FL? I don’t think it was that unusual at all.
Yes, he’s here all week.
And be sure to try the veal! LOL!
Pls see my previous post. 46, I think.
This is one thing I really love about FR... there are times I have laughed so hard I have cried LOL.
It was moving mighty fast.
I’ll never forget when we lived in Colorado, and we went for a hike we saw a rattler. Backed up very very slowly. Lol
Mi dispiache
Lol. BTW... GO HABS!!!
I have told many to hold horizontally, but phones do not allow that for some reason
The snake looks pretty full. Any golfers missing?
I’ve had larger than that in my yard. Don’t like them. I kill them when I see them. Friends eat them. Gators are more of a problem on golf courses, than rattlesnakes, in Florida.
The .45 going boom brought some late night excitement at the Thai Intelligence School. Our compound was within their area. It didn't take long for their mobile patrol jeep to inquire if we were under attack.
The cobra ended up on their dinner menu.
Another snake story.
In the 68 monsoon season I was walking home about 11:00 pm. The Soi was really dark as the power was out. I'm stepping over huge palm trees which had blown over. Shortly after stepping over one fairly large one I heard a rustle. Looking back I saw that last tree crawling off the soi. It was a BIG Boa.
I have other snake stories. Thailand 66 to 69 was an exciting time. And FWIW, Boa does taste like chicken.
It is hard to be sure but that one does not look all that large to me.
.
8 feet is not an unusual length for a pit viper.
