A couple of tourists are in big trouble in Thailand for spraying graffiti on an ancient wall in Chiang Mai.
The duo, a British man and Canadian woman were caught on video marking up the Tha Phae Gate.
The Brit, 23 year- old Lee Furlong has admitted to committing the crime, spraying the words Scouser Lee on the gate. BBC.com says that he would be charged with vandalizing an archaeological site.
The other artist involved in the crime, Brittney Schneider was arrested and charged with vandalism for spraying the first letter of her name on the gate.
BBC reports that the duo admitted committing the crime, saying they did it because of the thrill and they were also a little bit drunk.
CCTV from a cafe close by allegedly recorded the crime. It shows four people approach the gate at around 4:00. Two of them went up to the gate while it shows one start spraying the paint. The other two people in the video were not arrested.
Furlong and Schneider now face up to 10 years in jail and/ or a fine of up to one million baht which comes to a little over $30,000 US.

...and weekly public caning for the entirety of the 10 year prison sentence.
I don’t know the number of times I’ve paused under a full moon and recited “Late Lament”.
Well put. I may borrow that!
“Give them ten years of cleaning public facilities.”
Father of girl: “Is there any chance of a promotion?”
Shabby suiter: “In another year I get a brush!”
Ten years would be a bit over the top, wasteful in terms of money (incarceration) and their lives - they’re still young and stupid. That said, they’re idiots to think this wouldn’t have significant consequences - it’s not the U.K.
...which also says something about the U.K. - many just aren’t scared of the law...and one wonders why there’s Islamic rape gangs.
No, nobody I know here would even hit that with a 2x4.
This had to be a premeditated crime too, they obviously went and got paint somewhere.
Their greatest hits CD is stuck in my pickup's CD player and I can't get it out.
I've played the CD so much, I know every word to every song before it even starts.
Greatest band ever.
Not an uncommon condition of imprisonment in third world countries.
It gives families a strong incentive to raise there kids to not be criminals.
Imaging how different urban youth would be if mama's welfare payments were docked the amount it costs to feed them in juvie...
Nope. Their treasured historical artifact, their rules.
What would be a good penalty for going to the Smithsonian and spray painting the tatters of Old Glory?
Laz.
WHAT were they doing with cans of spray paint as the innocently toured the country. Seems like premeditation to me. DOUBLE THE FINE AND THE PRISON STAY.
While I will say I’ve never met Laz in person before, I’m fairly confident that even his standards exceed what this thing is capable of lol.
The best.....We sure grew up with great music didn't we?
