You for sure have quite a few challenges given your climate. Given the low sun activity, we all have to adjust somewhat to earlier maturing and extending the season with indoor/greenhouses/hoops etc.
Still, You have a very short season even under normal situations.
Yes, I have a wood-burning stove insert in my fireplace. I also have propane baseboard hot water heating, but try to keep the thermostats low sow the wood-burning stove does the heavy work. I cut and use about 6-7 cords of wood every winter.
