Halloween should keep powering the domestic market as Universals R-rated slasher film eyes a massive opening in the $57 million to $65 million range. The studio is cautiously anticipating a $50 million bow, though some industry analysts think it could rocket past $70 million when it debuts in 3,928 theaters. Halloween is also releasing in 21 international territories this weekend.
Even the lower part of that range would easily shatter records for the best launch in the Halloween franchise. The 2007 reboot holds that distinction now with $26 million. Halloween also looks to notch one of the best starts for an R-rated horror film, joining the company of It ($123 million), Hannibal ($58 million), and The Nun ($53 million). Given its $10 million production budget, the scary sequel is on track to be hugely profitable.

Damn. But it looks good, and the dropped most of the (largely terrible) mythology. Straight sequel to the first. I’m going.
Waiting for this ploy with the star wars series, throw out all but the “first two (or three)”
I wateched the ‘catch up’ vidto run throw of all of the Halloween films. Never paid this series much mnd even when the first one debuted on HBO.
I was surprised that they’ve done retrocontinuity and alternate paths and reboots already to the franchise. This latest entry continues the multiverse approach.
As for me, I prefer Phantasm.

“Boooooooooy!”
Michael Myers must be 80 years old.
Glad they ditched the rob zombie crap.
A director friend of mine told me the key to all these slasher/horror movies was not young men, but young women, that they had a tremendous appeal to them for some odd reason.
Possibly it’s because in many the heroine manages in the end to (temporarily) kill the monster.
Does Michael Myers finally kill Jamie Lee Curtis?
He kills her by cutting off her penis...
Jeez. You must have seen the trailer. That is so culturally up to date!
You had to ruin it for me.
Ooooh Phantasm. “BOY!”. I love the Halloween series, but yeah. It basically needs to be watched in clusters. 1, 2, H20 and Resurrection are basically a series. 4, 5 and 6 are a trilogy that kind of picks up from 2 but not really. 3 is of course unrelated (but actually pretty good). Then there’s Rob’s. It’s always the problem with there being no guiding voice. Halloween is a property, when whichever company owns it this week decides to make a movie they hire people and make it. There’s been no Phantasm without Coscarelli, they actually kind of make sense.
“Does Michael Myers finally kill Jamie Lee Curtis?”
Sheesh. I hope so.
Jamie Lee Curtis sports an array of self-defense guns utilized by her Halloween character. Yet the actress campaigns against the 2nd Amendment along with her Hollyweird hypocrite pals.
She should fight hockey-masked Michael Myers with her bare hands wearing a pussy hat. That’ll get ‘em.
Well, both Jamie and Michael (or whoever is behind the Shatner mask) have outlived Donald Pleasance, that’s for certain.
I liked Donald Pleasance as an actor. Don’t know much about his politics. That said, may he RIP.
The FAILURE of the senate to move these 4 gun measures forward will come home to roost in November. #onepersononevote @HillaryClinton— Jamie Lee Curtis (@jamieleecurtis) June 21, 2016

“As for me, I prefer Phantasm.”
I saw that when it came out, in a PACKED midnight showing. We didnt have all the gadgets and hyper-stimulation to dull us out back then, so people were SCREAMING when that flying orb drilled a hole in that guys head! It really was like a thrill ride.
