Beyond party and ideology, lets meet the challenge to care for women and children.
Theres a scene in the new movie Gosnell: The Trial of Americas Biggest Serial Killer that should launch candid conversations around the country. Alexis McGuire (played by Sarah Jane Morris), the lead prosecutor in the case against the Philadelphia abortion-clinic doctor Kermit Gosnell, is depicted at home with her husband, distraught at the reality of the horror shes had to face in the investigation. She explains:
Mothers Day 1972. Gosnell and this psychologist bussed in 15 pregnant women from Chicago. Second trimester. They were doing this big experiment. A demonstration. They filmed it and everything. They were testing this new device to make abortion easier. This ball of blades. They put it inside the woman and the blades rolled open. They cut the girls up bad.
Infections. Hemorrhages. One poor girl had to have a hysterectomy.
You know what happened to Gosnell? Nothing. He hid out in the Bahamas for a while. Came back here. Opened another clinic. And since then, hes been killing babies. Hes been killing babies alive. . . . Hed been delivering babies alive and snipping their necks with scissors, for 30 years. Because nobody wanted to say anything. Nobody wanted to know.
Now killing babies is a phrase you tend to hear only from the most dedicated pro-life activists. But please consider it. The Gosnell movie presents facts of the monstrous reality of that clinic; the fact are a prod to the conscience about our own inhumanity. Those words: Nobody wanted to say anything. Nobody wanted to know. Its true of a lot of us, on a lot of fronts. But lets consider desperate and poor women who found themselves in Kermit Gosnells clinic. Women need to be overwhelmed with knowledge of the alternatives in the most tender loving ways.
As Gosnell was hitting theaters, a friend who is a foster and adoptive mother and active in educating and promoting the same highlighted a video from Ryan OHara, a father in similar shoes asking: Are We Ready for the End of Roe v. Wade? Anthony Kennedys leaving the Supreme Court and Brett Kavanaughs replacing him obviously have made the question of its possible end a heightened political matter. But instead of falling in line with a politically charged position, this could be an opportunity, as with the Gosnell movie, to consider: What could each one of us be doing to actually help a neighbor in need, someone across town who doesnt know where to turn?
In his YouTube video, Ryan OHara reflects on the possibilities of life after Roe. There will be more opportunities, not less to love and serve families, kids, moms and dads in need, he says. And thats what I hope the pro-life movement is ready for. We all should make sure of it, pro-lifers and pro-choicers alike.
On the day of the Kavanaugh vote, I went to a Saturday morning Mass in lower Manhattan that was being protested. Its a monthly Witness to Life gathering that includes Mass and then a prayerful procession to the Planned Parenthood clinic a few blocks away. It was a chilling experience, particularly when I heard the chant Pro-Life is a lie, they dont care if women die. At the time, I was standing with the Sisters of Life, women religious whose lives are dedicated to reaching out to and loving and serving women, with a network around the country and Canada of people who will step in when help is needed. The fact is we dont know basic facts about one another. Maybe we dont want to know? Its easier to have a side.
And yet: Dont we want this all to get better? Dont we truly want to see women helped? Dont we really want to make sure that children are able to be born into a place of love? Dont we want more joy for more, as difficult as life always is? Dont we want it because life is a gift? Dont we want it for the sake of the future of this place we are only passing through? Dont we want more love, not less?
There is another memorable exchange in the Gosnell movie. McGuire is warned by the district attorney: You are prosecuting an abortion doctor for murder. . . . If you try this case and lose, you can kiss any political position with the governor good-bye. Youll be the prosecutor who went after reproductive rights, and youll be a racist to boot.
There is nothing that man did illegally for 30 years that protects women and children, McGuire replies. And you dont have to be a prolife activist to see that.
Gosnell is an opportunity to really take a look at not only the laws but also the culture of abortion. What keeps us from being honest about it, and what more can we do to truly help women, before birth and throughout? Were in this together. Its long past time to live like it.
Im sorry. I read the grand jury report and cannot bring myself to go see this. I do hope the movie does well, but I just cant.
It’s not bad! There is nothing gory and it has a PG-13 rating! I saw it first showing. It focuses on the trial.
Check my other threads and threads of freepers who have seen the movie and posted about it. Keyword prolife.
Biggest truth I took away from this movie is that a REPUBLICAN Governor (Tom Ridge) prevented health department officials from inspecting Gosnell’s clinic.
When the REPUBLICAN Party tells you it’s Pro Life, take it with a grain of salt. Their only advantage is that the Democrat Party wants to kill every baby it can possibly get its hands on.
Full Disclosure:
I am 100% totally Pro-Life, have participated in Pro-Life Demonstrations, vote only for pro-life candidates, and have prayed on the sidewalk for Life.
OK. That being said, I have to ask this.
Why on earth would “women’s advocates” defend a disgusting, filthy, phony abortion “doctor” who runs a foul, unsanitary “clinic”, puts women in jeopardy of sepsis and death, and victimizes his community?
The whole reason “women’s activists” wanted abortion to be legal was because they faked concern about women’s lives being at risk in “back alley abortions” with filthy conditions.
Why aren’t they protesting evil men like Gosnell who EXPLOIT WOMEN, expose them to diseases, invade their bodies, kill their newborns, and joke about it?
From what I understand, some PP facilities aren’t much better.
Just My Opinion.
That was in the movie trailer and had another FReeper not told me after he saw the trailer that man was a Republican I would not have known because I’m not a resident of PA.

Don’t know but in Gosnell’s case anything to keep the sacrament of abortion going on. Even if the conditions are sub standard.
So, in other words,
they aren’t REALLY “women’s advocates” at all.
They are psychopaths?
I know there are a number of people who worship/admire psycos..look at the women who Want to marry serial killers in prison.
Look how many admirers Manson had.
Its a Hollywood movie, is it not?
Is their some conservative anti-abortion organization that all the profit from this movie is going to?
They made it tame and quickly and PG-13 so no one except pro=lifers would pay to see it.
To bad our moral outrage doesnt follow our money around bitching and moaning.
>>Why arent they protesting evil men like Gosnell who EXPLOIT WOMEN
Because abortion and homosexuality reign supreme among the left. Illegal immigration is on its way up to that level, but with these issues, the left thinks they have enough idiots who will parott the safety/health/rights/etc. line without thinking about it. Honestly, the money is a distant concern.
“they arent REALLY womens advocates at all”
See it’s not that hard if you try.
No it’s about free sex with out the responsibility.
It’s about making money off of women (and men) who don’t take responsibility.
it’s about covering up past mistakes so no one knows. Or so they think
I could go on but you get it.
“Why arent they protesting evil men like Gosnell who EXPLOIT WOMEN”
Because abortion is their sacrament.
They are hoping we will forget Gosnell but we did not. This weekend we put him in theaters all over the nation.
That is the sad truth. And I am a woman who is saying this. (SMH)
Is it a Hollywood movie?
I though it was indy.
Nail on the head.
“The issue is never the issue”.
Of course, I get it.
My questions were mostly rhetorical, and certainly caused a lot of discussion.
Alls I can find is that it was crowdfunded. Who gets the profit from that? Over 4 years in production and fighting legal battles with Hollywood lawyers the entire way. Im probly hung up on the money end of it. Its obvious that Hollywood wants the least exposure to this as possible and has mechanisms in place to insure it. I recognised that the first trailer I seen.
My pointless point was the fact that every box of popcorn that is sold, Hollywood gets a cut. Unless this is shown in private settings or Indy theaters.
