A makeshift memorial to Hispanic Civil War Union soldiers in an isolated part northern New Mexico is a typical representation of sites linked to U.S. Latino history: It’s shabby, largely unknown and at risk of disappearing.
Across the U.S, many sites historically connected to key moments in Latino civil rights lie forgotten, decaying or endanger of quietly dissolving into the past without acknowledgment. Scholars and advocates say a lack of preservation, resistance to recognition and even natural disasters make it hard for sites to gain traction among the general public, which affects how Americans see Latinos in U.S. history.
The birthplace of farmworker union leader Cesar Chavez sits abandoned in Yuma, Arizona. The Corpus Christi, Texas, office of Dr. Hector P. Garcia, where the Mexican-American civil rights movement was sparked, is gone. And no markers exist where pioneering educator George I. Sanchez captured images of New Mexico poverty for his 1940 groundbreaking book “Forgotten People.”
“People need to see history, they need to touch it, they need to feel it, they need to experience it,” said Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez, a journalism professor at the University of Texas who has worked to preserve Latino historical sites. “When something is preserved, it’s a daily reminder of our history.” […]
In 2012, the National Park Foundation’s American Latino Heritage Fund launched a campaign to improve the representation of Hispanics in national parks. Could it be, our birth as a nation, and rise to economic superpower and military superpower, took place in spite of an adversarial Spain, and adversarial Mexico, and in spite of Mexico officially being allied with Germany during WWII, and the Soviets during the second half of the last century? Or that near 70% of Hispanics are utilizing some form of US taxpayer funded welfare, while a similar percent of Hispanics are political pawns and supporters of anti-American socialist organizations and separatists groups?
Naw, what does history, or a threat to our liberty have to do with anything...
How many cities and counties in the Southwest have Spanish names? That heritage is everywhere.
Of course, we can’t have a monument to Father Serra, founder of the Missions (almost all of which later became cities), because, after all, he worked to bring Christianity to the native population...

If Latinos or other groups want historical sites or whatever why don’t they start the process to get them? I have seen groups get permission for things like that, raise money...do it. What a concept.
I don’t see the point in putting up new things like monuments, landmarks, ETC anymore; at some point some group will find something wrong with them and tear them down I am sure.

Why do I need historical site and landmarks of people who speak a particular language that is not of this country?

True but the courts can’t make anyone a citizen(sole authority of congress) and they can’t pass laws(supposedly). Congress has not passed a law making anchor babies citizens, so how are they legally giving out birth certificates to anchor babies?
I really want to know. Does anyone know?
it’s a mystery because there has been no SCOTUS decision forcing that bastardization of the 14th Amendment:
‘The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States.”
‘At the time the amendment was approved, the author of the clause, Sen. Jacob M. Howard, said the phrase relating to jurisdiction meant, “This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners ... .”
‘In subsequent years, the courts invalidated the assurances of Howard; at this stage, an amendment to the Constitution seems the only means available to change the law....
