Dating applications can allow users to fall into their own racial biases while searching for a partner, a new study says.
But in their study, researchers from schools like Cornell University say the “sexual racism” that plagues apps like Grindr, Tinder and Bumble can be stamped out with a few simple changes. The end goal, the study says, is to promote more diverse pairings on the dating sites.
Jevan Hutson, lead author of the study, said in a press release from Cornell University that “it’s really an unprecedented time for dating and meeting online” — which requires a more thorough look at how we can prevent discrimination on these dating apps.
“More people are using these apps, and they’re critical infrastructures that don’t get a lot of attention when it comes to bias and discrimination,” he said in the press release. “Intimacy is very private, and rightly so, but our private lives have impacts on larger socioeconomic patterns that are systemic.”
“Over the years I’ve had some pretty harrowing experiences,” Keodara told The Guardian. “You run across these profiles that say ‘no Asians’ or ‘I’m not attracted to Asians’. Seeing that all the time is grating; it affects your self-esteem.”

Well, over the years, I never concerned myself with race. Citizenship, yes. I guess that came from being stationed in the Philippines. I never wanted to be a means for someone to gain citizenship, to bring their family here. How could you ever trust the reason or permanence of the relationship?

I actually believe that human beings are hardwired to prefer the “same”. IOWs, they gravitate to someone of the same race. Also, similar religions, or similar political viewpoints. I just think it is the way we are.

Interracial marriage is really being pushed in the media. White man married to black woman is something you hardly ever see, but if you watch TV you would think it’s a common occurrence. And it’s hardly ever an Asian woman or man with a white person, but there are certainly more white men married to Asians than there are white guys married to black women. The media would make you believe blacks make up 50% of the population, when it’s around 13%. When I was in the Air Force I had a kid that worked for me from Utah that had never saw a back guy till he got to basic training. The media are a bunch of liars.

I cannot tell you how many shows I’ve stopped watching with the gay scenes, and how many books I’ve put down with gay characters (and always for no reason to advance the plot, just because there has to be a token gay). No thank you.

I know a lot of people on this site complain about "super-hero" movies; but, at least they are entertaining.
Of course, that is also in the process of being ruined as it seems they are trying to make every super hero, now, a female.
