Japanese researchers at Kyoto University have unveiled a prototype 'robot snake' that can slither and curl around surfaces and climb just like the real thing.
Rather than just creating it to trigger nightmares, they believe it could one day be used to save lives.

A “robot snake” that could slither down pipes and unclog them would be a wonderful thing. We’d just have to be careful that they didn’t come back and bite us in the a**.

No kidding....and this is 2016 state of art.
In the scene where the human repeatedly moves the box, pushes the bot...what happens when the bot recognizes the constant source of “mission obstruction” and “decides” that it is more efficient to remove that than attempting to constantly move the box. Something seemingly simple as an energy saver learning routine extrapolated might lead to unexpected consequences.
