Well, unless something big happens, it looks like Judge Brett Kavanaugh will be the next Associate Justice for the U.S. Supreme Court. The cloture vote, which was covered on our live blog, ended in success. It was a 51-49 vote. Now, 30 hours of speeches from both sides have begun. Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) caused a bit of a heart attack when he said he would be out of D.C. for the weekend; his daughter is getting married on Saturday. He will walk her down the aisle but said transportation arrangements had been made. Daines became an accidental key vote due to his absence. This means the vote will remain open for a long time. Saturday could be a very long day, folks.
And it seems that barring any cataclysmic news changes, the votes for todays cloture vote will remain the same for the final votewhich means we have the votes. Out of the wild cards, Sens. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Susan Collins (R-ME), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Murkowski was the only no vote on cloture from this crew. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), who has a history of being a vote whip, said that he doesnt expect Murkowski or Manchin to change their votes.
He might have been a pain in this fight. He sided with Democrats in their push for another FBI investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. He was undecided for the longest time, but he voted for cloture today. As the 30 hours of debate counts down, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has made a decision: hes voting yes.

So, are we in the clear? Well, we had the votes last Friday, according to a Senate insider who spoke with us, and then Flake decided to gum up the works by accommodating Democrats on their FBI request. When all sides agreed to the FBI investigation and the report was delivered, by no ones surprise, Democrats dismissed the report. The delay tactics are over. The vote is happening, and again, barring any earth-shattering news, or Democrats getting their hands on Flake again, Kavanaugh looks likely to be seated on the Court.
This whole process was thrust into chaos when three women came forward with sexual misconduct allegations. All three claims are without evidence or corroborating witnesses, but the Left took their kill shot anyway. It wounded the nominee, his family, and his reputation. The damage done to Kavanaugh from this character assassination attempt will be long-lasting, but it seems the worst is over. He will likely be confirmed until all hours on Saturday. Well be here covering. In the meantime, it might be best for Republican leadership to hide Jeff Flake. Take him outside of D.C. for a few hours; take his cell phone away, and just hide him away from Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) and the rest of the Democratic Party on the Hill. Maybe toss Collins and Manchintheyre about to get blitzed as well.
UPDATE: As of now, Collins is a no vote, according to a Senate insider. There is time to change her vote, but prospects aren't good.
Bullshit. It might take Pence to get it done but Kavanaugh WILL be approved.
Yes.
What about the Senator who was going to attend his daughter’s wedding? Will he vote?
Affirmative.
After Jan 3rd when they are sworn in.
They have no freaking idea at how big the cold anger will be, every Mom with Sons, Husbands, Nephews, etc are sick of this c$it and will vote accordingly. The question begs, can McConnell pull a parliamentary maneuver to bring it back like Bob Dole used to by changing his vote at the last minute...
Wishy Washy
“Getting a conservative majority on the court is something Mitch cares about.”
If he really cared, why did he allow all of the demoncrat’s dog and pony shows in the senate? The constant interruptions, the protests, the ford testimony...Why didn’t he have all of his ducks in a row before the hearing started? Why didn’t he hold the vote 2 weeks ago?

Statement at link.
That was Grassley’s show.
It is likely that the Republicans will pick up Senate seats next month, and Murkowski’s value as a swing vote will drop quite a bit.
“Mitch is tough as nails when something HE wants is at stake.”
You want to punish this bitch and her buddy Mad Cow?
Send 5 or more new GOP Senators to help Trump in Nov.
The only reason the cowardly 4 Flake/Corker/Mad Cow and Collins can get away with this crap is the US Senate is so evenly divided.
Want to make her politically impotent? Stop evenly dividing the US Senate by giving the GOP undisturbed control with a real GOP President like Trump to set the Agenda
Gee, no TV writer could set up a cliff-hanger like this one...
So the drama goes on. If it gets Republican voters and potentially those who lean Republican whipped up enough to GO VOTE in November, it shall have been worth it, but the turmoil has stirred some deep waters.
A wave is forming in the aftermath, but whether it is “red” or “blue” is still anybody’s call.
Yup, Judge K unfortunately is out.
It was both of their shows
A floor speech, gut tells me no... no need to do that if you are going to confirm... going to try to justify her betrayal on the floor....
But who knows... this thing is a circus to this very day..
If he doesn’t get confirmed tomorrow, Trump should just resubmit him in January after the new Senate is in place.
No, it means that all the people in Alabama who failed to vote for Roy Moore cast the deciding votes, if Brett loses!
Judge K gets one shot. If he fails, he won't be resubmitted.
Republicans are going to pick up MANY seats next month.. Collins and Murkowski will be irrellevant and flake and corker will be gone...
I say if the nomination fails... Trump immediately announces he will not allow this character assassination by the swamp to stand and will re submit Kavanaugh in January after the new Senate has been seated.
Make the November elections a flat out referendum on Kavanaugh and the Court....
BOOM.
Where in the Constitution is it stated you get one shot an done shot only??
Make the Midterms a flat out referendum on Kavanaugh and the Court...
