I’m guessing they didn’t trust her to stay on script so they were there to make sure she did. When you’re lying to helps to have someone there with the ‘facts’ just in case. She was the most non-credible individual I’ve ever seen and all the media people did were praise her for how believable she was.

According to her testimony, Blasey-Ford was attending her grandmother’s funeral around the time her handlers arranged a lie detector test for her. This was also the time when her Internet history was being removed across many sites. That is a big operation.
I noticed the same thing. Props? Anytime I was seposed the my counsel never sat at the table. I always assumed that was by design.
I can’t say I have seen a lot of hearings of this kind - I usually just read about them afterward. I do remember the Oliver North Iran-Contra hearings, and he consulted his lawyers before most answers. (The lawyers never spoke into the mic, at least not that I saw.)
Similarly, there is a great set of videos onYouTube of a lawyer and policeman who BOTH agree you should never talk to any policeman et al without counsel present...even if you are 100% innocent. The potential for distortion and twisting and lying is too great and one's freedom is at stake.

That said, I sided with Col North's defense in that situation, and notwithstanding all of the above, I think there are better points of attack than that of counsel helping a client.
