Athlete Banned From All-you-can-eat Restaurant After Downing 100 Plates of Sushi
Newsweek ^ | 09/17/18 | Brendan Cole

Jaroslav Bobrowski knows a good deal when he sees one. Accordingly, an all-you-can-eat offer at one sushi restaurant is no longer available to him.

The triathlete follows a special diet in which he fasts for 20-hour periods. So when he does sit down for dinner, he tries to make up for lost time.

But after devouring a staggering 100 plates at the Running Sushi restaurant in Landshut, Germany, as part of its $26 buffet deal, the restaurant declared him persona non grata.

"When I went to the checkout, I wanted to tip, but the waiter did not want to accept that. I'm banned from now on because I'm eating too much. I was stunned," the 30-year-old Iron Man competitor said.

On TripAdvisor, images from the restaurant show an average of three pieces of sushi on each plate.

Depending on the serving, a piece of sushi contains, according to fatsecret.com, an average of 40 to 50 calories. This means that Bobrowski could have consumed around 4,000 calories in the one sitting. Eater reported that he may have eaten as much as 18 pounds of sushi.

Bobrowski is 5'7", weighs 174 pounds and has less than 10 percent body fat.

Restaurant owner Tan Le told Bild: "This is not normal, how much he eats. I myself am dead after 13 plates, but he always took five or seven plates at a time, so there was a gap on the sushi carousel and the other guests asked if we had skimped on the fish.

"I want to win customers and not offend any guests. But at €15.90 for unlimited sushi, we only earn money on the drinks and he only consumed one tea the whole evening," he added.

My mom and dad told a story about an all-you-can eat place that had a turnstile at the cash register presumably to reconcile the customer count with register receipts.

Since not all customers could fit through the turnstile, they also had a cattle gate the cashier would open to let the oversized customers in.

My parents said the turnstiles counted the customers the restaurant made money on while the cattle gates counted customers the restaurant lost money on.

I have heard that most people consume 4 to 7 thousand calories on an average thanksgiving day...so 4-5 grand aint too bad really.

They skipped the 3 pieces per plate. 100 plates, each with three pieces at 45 calories each would be 13,500 calories.

I had a friend back in my 20's that was banned from at least three all-you-can-eat joints, and I didn't blame them a bit. He went into those places on a mission.

I've been tracking my calories consumed obsessively for several years now through an app called MyFitnessPal. What I like best about this app is I can go back in time and see what I ate three years ago on this day (it included sausage, jalapenos, corn on cob, sardines (for lunch) and dark chocolate).

There was a day where I determined to eat 10,000 calories in a day on purpose. That was Christmas Day in 2016. It was the ultimate "cheat day". Three gigantic meals interspersed with snacks of Christmas cookies, cheesecakes, nuts, cheeses and crackers, scallops wrapped in bacon. Then the alcohol. Nearly an entire bottle of Frangelico liqueur (before noon) and then Madeira, port wine and amaretto. I generously counted the calories so might actually have been only around 8,500 or so - but it was a lot of food and drink, I'll tell you that. I pretty much ate and drank that entire day. Christmas dinner included roast duck, stuffing made with a dozen eggs, sweet potato casserole with pecans, creamed corn and heavily buttered roasted brussels sprouts.

No, I don't weigh 1,000 pounds. I had spent most of that year losing weight and that Christmas Day was my reward - plus I was celebrating Trump's election. I spent the next eight days hiking in the woods to make up for it!

When I was young, I was slender. I was also an athlete and I could eat far far more than I can now. I would guess maybe a third of what I ate then.

Pancho’s in El Paso, where you raise the little flag? It went out of business long ago. Maybe that’s why. Lol

I’ll repeat this in case anyone followed Gulf Coast area wrestling in the 60s and remember Billy & Bad Boy Hines.

A sportswriter for a Jacksonville Fl newspaper did a story in the 80s about the southern circuit wrestlers in the old days. He told of seeing the Hines Bros. in a small country restaurant that had all-you-can-eat fried catfish buffet.

Billy & Bad Boy loaded up two plates apiece, ate all the catfish and kept going back for more. They cleaned the buffet out. Wrestlers back then who did the small town/ rural circuits were not paid a lot and worked hard for what they did get. The opportunity to fill up on cheap catfish was too tempting to pass up.

I LOVE raw oysters but I think I would pass on them from a buffet.

It’s just me.

Not a good idea when it comes to sushi. Get a bad batch and you get sick. Eat a lot of a bad batch and you get really sick. Remember it’s raw fish.

Oh, no, these were high-class for a buffet and trustworthy. Between the oysters, different kinds of crab and crème brulee that was a meal.

stupid marketing to say “All you can eat” then not be happy when a person does just that.

My nephew and his cousins (all teenage boys) used to have a contest on Thanksgiving Day. They’d weigh before and after dinner. Whoever gained the most weight won.

I remember reading somewhere that lumberjacks use 4,000 calories a day.

And the fasting regimen is not a bad idea at all.

It’s the greed and the taking advantage that are kind of repelling. A place where my parents used to go had trouble with Alaskan king crab legs. They’re expensive and they don’t have much in them, so you can bankrupt a place in no time. I think they stopped that item eventually.

Sushi grade fish is supposed to be stored at -4° F for at least 7 days to destroy any parasites which might be there. I think in calif. it is longer period.....it might be raw but it is frozen for long time first....since many fish contain parasites. I stopped eating raw fish once I learned that.
Its amazing how much food is actually “spoiled”.....cheeses...wine..yogurt...kim chee...fish sauce...lebnah...sour cream...

Eating 100 plates of anything is not a man.

He's a HOG! With due apologies to all genuine animals of that species.
