All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.
The FReeper world's a stage, but the men and women of FR are not merely players. They're real people. We each choose the faces we present to others on FR, some more revealing than others, some perhaps more "truthy" than others, some purely artificial perhaps, but each with enough consistency and civility that we think of each other as real people, as real colleagues in our common quest for truth, often as friends.
In my first 19 years of FreeRepublic, I didn't have this same feeling. I interacted with articles and facts and ideas, rarely noticing if I interacted with the same person twice, rarely even noticing a name.
In the 11 months of Q, I have become enchanted with the men of Q, the ladies of Q, the braggadocios of Q (Bragster, er, Bagster, you know who I'm talking about), the storytellers of Q, the diggers of Q, the organizers of Q knowledge, the kibitzers of Q, the collectors of Q memes, the music lovers, the art lovers, the weapons lovers, the food lovers, the sliders, the flip-floppers, the grammar police, the punctuation police, the curmudgeons, the Q lurkers who occasionally reveal themselves, the recent flood of newbies (welcome!), even some of the trolls.
This is an amazing "place". If it takes a village to keep our republic, we've got it right here.
HEY!!!!!
Well, at least I got top billing.
Is that because I'm A Number 1?
(of course it is. duh)
Hear! Hear!
FReeRepublic does indeed have that. What 8chan does have that FR does not is unconditional free speech. Well, not totally unconditional, in that they dont allow illegal things like child porn, but its pretty damn free.
FR is moderated which has its advantages. 8chan can certainly get messy but you sometimes have to break a few eggs to make your freedom omelette. Each has its place in the world. We should all support 8chan as the last truly free speech location on the internet and we should also support FR as a beacon of light, truth and knowledge.

There’s a huge contrast between the 8chan “community” of nameless anons, united only by a common goal, and the FReeQ community of real personalities.
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.
