Or after being called racist for taking a sports’ title from the entitled black woman, she’s bringing up her black heritage to defend herself and her victory in front of liberal bullies.

I’m happy she beat the arrogant and shameful Serena, but I’d prefer that if she plays under the Japanese flag that she actually BE Japanese.

Look, I have translated for 100% ethnic Japanese people who were visiting Japan from the USA and Canada, and those people weren’t Japanese BY A MILE.

Does she UNDERSTAND Japanese? Probably. Is she 50% Japaense..? Yes, she is, and that means something.

IS she Japanese..?

No freakin way.

Her dad for BUSINESS REASONS designated her as “Japanese”, a little like Tiger’s long-seperated parents pretending they were lovey-dovey, one big, happy family.

What you have in the Osaka/Serena match is a somewhat nice scammer triumphing over an unsportmanlike narciccist:

An improvement, yes, but it still looks sorta bad.

Yep. And even without the accent they use so many idioms and so much slang that it is difficult to make sense of it.

I remember that well. I never even tried to make sense of Cockneys when I heard them talking in groups. It truly is another language.

I wonder why the editor thought that ‘schooled’ was the right descriptive.

Naomi, now an international figure, may get some backlash for brushing off the question.

Read Thomas Sowell’s “White Liberals, Black Rednecks”.
A lot of the language and poor grammar we associate with inner city blacks is very similar to poor Southern white lingo ... because that’s where most blacks came from four to five generations ago.
We mock whites who still speak that way, but for blacks, it is raised to an honorable dialect.

The Olympics is full of people - especially in track and field - fighting to register as citizens of little and isolated countries so they can compete in the Olympics.

Apparently Hungary is especially generous in permitting overseas sportsmen who can credibly document Hungarian blood to compete at the OLYMPIC level as Hungarians, provided there is almost no showing by “full Hungarians” in the Olympic events entered:

An American lady with one vaguely Hungarian mother had a longstanding hankering to compete in the Olympics and this woman was a PROFOUNDLY AVERAGE skier.

The key was she entered only obscure skiing events for which there were absolutely ZERO Hungarians.

What played out was RIDICULOUS —she basically skied down the half-pipe, barely doing any tricks at all.

EMBARRASSING.

It was simple for her:

She had a bucket list, and she checked off the “Olympics” box.

RIDICULOUS.

Yes, it was..

Thanks...

Funny part, I googled to ‘check my sometime feeble mind’ and when I hit Japanese President of Chile, it came up.

HOWEVER, I let it go there and when I just rechecked same came up and I TOOK THE TIME TO READ/VERIFY and damned if it didn’t say Peru.....

Oh well, something to do with 1939 I guess..

Thanks again. It ‘hurts’ when one as ‘anal’ as I makes a blatant error.....HA HA

To be honest, I wish Naomi played for the U.S.A.

Her background gets more interesting when you read her Wiki bio. For starters: Naomi’s Japanese side of the family broke contact with her mother for a whole 10 years — because they did not approve of her marriage to a black man.

Naomi’s father’s last name is ‘Francois’ but Naomi and her sister took on ‘Osaka’ for practical reasons when her family was still based in Japan. (Her parents met in Japan after her dad graduated from NYU.)

Naomi does not speak much Japanese and is a dual citizen of USA/Japan. Raised primarily in the U.S.

Representing Japan was her dad’s (Leonard Maxime Francois) decision. He felt it would open up more opportunities...

I feel that America is missing out!

If you’d lived in Brasil you’d rethink that trust me

Mixed more often than not after mixing and mixing like there is not Zoe Saldana or Thandie Newton or Lenny Kravitz or his lovely daughter Zoe

Sad to say

It’s feral looking

I lived there....my daughters on my homepage are Brasil citizens and USA and live near me...

Their mom is ethnic Lebanese Catholic born and raised in Brasil that’s fairly close DNA to me since rumor has it I’m about 8% Maronite too....surname Thomas ...on moms side...olive skin...I tan like a Hamilton ...George.

Brasil is about 35 percent mulatto or mulatto guarani Indian mixed......pardos in the vernacular there...

It’s not like the beach babes on postcards or supermodels who tend to be European dna girls from southern Brasil

Like the USA Brasil is at its best in the south....lolr

Watch a documentary of favela dwellers .....that’s where polyglot America is headed

And I say this admitting I’m no beauty myself...I do think Chinese and European mixes well though...

That’s not true

Tottenham court and hampstead lane residence
Hatton Garden office

85-86

I can easily tell a black accent from average black living in Britain

Not so much Ebonics like here but an accent no question

Tone and inflection

Seems to me Naomi’s paternal grandparents were a Japanese male and a Haitian female. They had her father who married a Japanese female. ...Thus, her surname is Osaka and she is 1/4 Haitian.

After reading #50, I found that my guess at Naomi’s family history was wrong. ...Thanks for doing a little research, CP, as the results present a twist I didn’t contemplate. I was just focusing on her last name.

Her attitude, facial expressions and body language seem fairly Japanese. A good kid and many good lucks to her. A vast improvement over both Williams sisters who are blocking the hotties coming up the ranks.
IOW We need more graceful and lovely female tennis stars. We have been suffering w the Williams sisters.

btw Reason Serena went nuts is she wants to beat Margaret Courts record of wins. Court is Australian.

And the lovely Miss Osaka got in her way.

But she plays for Japan not Haiti. What’s wrong with the question?

It's not a country vs. country tournament, she's playing for Naomi Osaka.......

There is a lot of press right now concerning Serena, and the fact of the matter is Serena, as an aging athlete, was beaten by a younger athlete.

It happens all the time. Athletic performance has age limits. Serena is peaking, and maybe going on to the other side of that peak.

...and I’ve read articles stating that even mathematicians perform at their highest level of achievement before 35 and maybe until they’re around 40. It’s hormonal.

She plays the minority card. In the US since age 2, but claims to be Japanese and represents the Japanese nation?

How about interviewing the millions of Japanese tennis players and how they aren’t being acknowledged in international competition?
