Back in the day, smart store owners gave a free sandwich to the local cop, or let him grab an apple or donut gratis. It encouraged the cops to swing by often and surely prevented robberies and other trouble at the shops. Good investment.

I think ethics people weighed in and cops were told that they had to pay for stuff. But they still get discounts at a lot of places, discounts offered to all first responders for example. In my area, after midnight if you go to our local convenience store chain (Wawa) you will find a cope there getting coffee about 50% of the time. Nobody robs the wawas.

Telling cops to stay away seems unwise.

Lets just say i know a lot of businesses that still offer freebies to police in the panhandle of fla. System still works well for all involved.
