The Victorians were big buyers of shrunken heads until a sea captain complained about the product to a Maori tribal chief as the tribe loaded his ship with products and supplies. The chief waved his hand at the tattooed tribesmen doing the loading and said, “Point out the ones you want and I’ll give you their heads tomorrow.” The captain realized that the Victorians were driving the market. When he published that in the London Times, a law was written and the trade (allegedly) stopped.
